Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Both King and Muscles are bunglers. Nobody would argue that. But they are fighters in a team that under Wallet seemed to toatally lose track of the very notion.

Lace-Out has gone backwards with the ball this year while plateauing in every other department. I'm a fan of his tood but this was a make or break year for him and he is up against it from here.

Jake has, surprisingly, gone forward. He can win a clearance. And limit a midfield opponent. But DalSanto got the points on Friday night. And physically, Jake is the ideal matchup - nippier and fierce. Inexperience is much less a facor with geriatrics.

If either were large I'd say persevere but our team is dangerously underweight. So skinnies are in the gun, particularly if they can't kick.

My feeling is that Lace-Out hates to lose and Jake loves to win. But I reckon that's academic.

IMO Muscles will outlast Jake but if we are going somewhere it will amost certainly be without either.

FWIW I'd drop Muscles for ball bungling and see what happens. He hates to lose.

Interesting perspective and on the money I think. I actually think Dimma likes both but ill discipline could be the death knell.

Interestingly Jake has eschewed the he-man persona and played with control and discipline last few weeks. Maybe he is a quicker learner than Muscles.

We don't know that yet, 22. Because Muscles is only (I used to know - let me check - 23? - Yes. 23. Still got it. LOL.)

And Beavis likes them because they are masculine. Thankfully the days of Wallet PC apologism are gone. With a bold coach and handy recruiting we can be over his legacy in only two and a half years.

I like both. If they could use the ball they'd be idols. If they were each 10kgs heavier I'd say persevere. We are hilariously skinny. A roster of runts. A rabble of ribs. These guys are in the gun long term. But hey get a chance to go quantum.

Like I said, I'd burn Lace-Out just to get him going ape. He might find another gear.

he needs calming down not revving up IMO, he's more ape than Clyde

Heh heh heh, BCL. Can they ever be angry enough? (I really meant form wise. He might profit from a smarten up, not that I think there is much chance it will happen.)

Wouldn't call Jakey skinny - very strong in the core - no issue with strength for King - taller than Campbell Brown from memory - maybe he should play third tall down back instead of Lukey.

As I've said previously Jake thinks he is Wayne Carey so I'd play him CHF (seriously.............................almost)

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

In the context of where our side is at, McGuane should be cut some slack. He's tough, agile and evasive, aggressive, works hard, reasonably smart, just can't kick, although his shocker count has slowly and steadily improved over the last 2 seasons. If our crop of youngsters turns out to be good and we become a good side in 3 years, we'll re-assess. but he is the type of player that can fit into a good side and play a role. For now, he's doing OK.

Deledio is ahead of Goddard at the same age, no reason he can't be as good or better than he is now if you give him another 2 years that Goddard has had. Helps when you are surrounded by quality players and are winning games.

Great. In the meantime play him in the middle until he is as good as Goddard and we can afford to have our best disposers floating around the backline picking up cheap possessions.

By that statement you are inferring Goddard/Hodge are picking up cheap possessions?

It's almost a case of where you put your best disposers and decision makers - think Gilbee, Hurn, Drummond.

The disposals from the backline are more crucial than in any other part of the ground, and an area where we have been diabolical. I see no problems placing our theoretically best kick right where he is most needed. The more flexibility Deledio develops the better for the team.
What do we have to lose this year developing Deledio further as a footballer and getting some modfield time into Martin/Cotchin/Collins/Edwards/Nason etc?

Goddard got that good playing in the position Deledio is now

Probably for another thread but I too don't have an issue playing Lids predominantly off HB with the odd stint on the ball.
He's arguably our best kick in the team & others sides have utilised that to great effect from defence.
If there's anyone I want sending quality ball inside 50m is Lids.
No issue with him being our designated kicker & I think Hardwick is utilising his best assets well. That being his pace, run & carry and disposal.
Bet the forwards appreciate it too.

Sorry guys. Deledio is never going to be as hard as a Goddard or Hodge and will never play the role as well as them in my opinion. Especially Goddard who would be arguably top couple of players in the league. As for the Gilbee's and Hurn's, well they are good players but I was hoping that Deledio would become more than that. Couldn't see a Hurn playing midfield.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I remember Goddard in his first 5 years at the Saints and I used to say to my Saints supporting mate that he was the biggest joke of a no.1 pick in the history of AFL. What a difference a few years makes. Deledio IMO is better at this stage of his career than Goodard was.

Exactly.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Why are posters talking about Goddard in McGuane's thread?
Goddard isnt fit to tie Lukes shoelaces.

I never said I didn't think Deledio would be as good or better in the future. My point really is I don't think he is as hard or good in that defensive role as Goddard is, or ever will be. For me, Deledio is a midfielder through and through. Seems to me we are playing Deledio CHB out of necessity rather than desire.

McGuane aint smart he is one of the most footy DUMB , undisciplined and poorly skilled, composure deficient trucks on the list.

Its laughable the amount of love for dead set boat anchors on here, McGuane, Polo, White, even Nahas these blokes are not what is going to take this side forward and must be cut and replaced by better options.

Do people want to see a RFC premiership or what.

Agreed.

What are you thoughts on King, Craig?
