Good news. McGuane compo gets combined with Matt White compo to give us a final compo picture. Hopefully get an end of 1st round or 2nd rounder pick by combining the compo

You can't "combine" compo. You get one pick for each player you lose and we won't get anything for McGuane. For White we won't get anything either. Maybe a 4th rounder.

Wrong.

If your going to question what I say at least check the rules first.

Final compo is decided on your position at the end of the free agent period. eg) Carlton will not get anything for losing Betts because they are bringing in Thomas. Same reason Collingwood will not pursue a free agent this year because they don't want to lose their pick 11 they got for Thomas.

My understanding is that band 5 compensation is a third rounder, band four an end of second round pick.

It's interesting, if we don't sign a Free Agent, which it appears we won't and we lose two fringe players it will be interesting to see what happens.

I'd be wrapped with an extra third round pick.

Sorry you are right. You get combined compo for unrestricted FA but for Restrited FA you do recieve a compo pick for each player. (Pearce and Chaplin last year for example.)

The Rules Explained.

COMPENSATION

A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.

The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:

1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.

Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:

• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

Yes - on the Compensation picks - according to the AFL rules it's the 'NET LOSS' of players....

They give picks based on points for net loss.... Points = pick bands....

We have lost 2 players now & added none so far.... Depends on what contracts they are offered too...
Also if we pick up anyone - depending on the player it might be better to sit it out and get a better pick ...
Hopefully ATM the points could get us to say end of second round.....Not sure on that - the club would have a fair idea...

End of 1st round would be a godsend.

Would be happy with a 2nd rounder.

Here's hoping!

Shame to see him go. He always gave it his all. McGun until the end.

If some of our tall failures, like Post, had half the determination to play AFL as McGun did, they would still have a career.

I read that earlier today as well.

I'm still not sure they combine compo for losing 2 players as Port received seperate Picks for Chaplin and Pearce last year.

I think the "Net loss" explanation is there to account for scenarios where a club loses and gains players.

Or is the above a refined formula since last year?

A second rounder will put us in a very strong position, three picks in the top 30 gives FJ a golden opportunity to plug quite a few holes.

I don't know if they have changed it for RFA's? Port definitely did get pick's 29 and 30 last year for Pearce and Chappy.

good luck Lukey.

either he or AEdwards had to go this year I reckon and he made the job of list management a little easier by walking out. he must be reasonably confident he will get picked up. hope he is right.

Also - Clubs can ask the AFL for an indication of their draft compensation before they decide to match a rival club’s offer.

Could be why Richmond let Matt White go so easily.... Add his points to McGuane's ....

The formula for compensation is based on the size and length of the contract and the age of the player....

Matt White - 26 years old x 3 years x $x plus McGuane 26 yo x ?

Pure guts and 100% effort 100% of the time.
We have more talented players on our list who I wish had your work ethic.

Thanks Luke and I wish you well wherever you finish up.
