Luke McGuane

Amazing stat (well I think so).  Saints had 19 free kicks.  Our two key position players gave away 8 of those, 5 to McGuane and 3 to Thursfield.   That's alot of free kicks in their forward line.  At the other end Gilbert and Fisher had 1 free against between them.  Why the discrepancy?

"Unsociable football". Hawthorn's stats under Clarkson:

2005 369 FF, 431 FA
2006 363 FF, 405 FA
2007 436 FF, 493 FA
2008 492 FF, 586 FA
2009 452 FF, 510 FA
2010 190 FF, 236 FA

Get used to it under Hardwick. Am content to let off steam via umpire abuse while we're playing uncompromising footy.

Fisher and Gilbert are better players?

Just a guess.

Regardless that's a large anomoly. 8 free kicks against 2 key position backmen. Might be a record.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

He played terrible last night. Don't care how much Saints forward pressure there was or whatever, he was crap.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

McGuane was not at his best last night but a huge overreaction here.

He is actually a pretty good negating tall and I believe he would get a game at a lot of other sides. As usual it was a small that killed us last night. Some of McGuane's poor defensive efforts stood out because he is normally so good in this area.

Would love to upgrade him for Fletcher, Scarlett, Lake types but in the mean time like Presti, Dale Morris, Glass etc he definitely has a spot in my opinion!

Disgrace. Chewed up the ball & turn it over, was behind all night, gave away stupid free kicks becuase he was behind. Every bloke he went on had a day out.

But hey, besides that he had guts.

Right on. Guts alone does not make an AFL footballer. Giving away stupid frees in the backline, costs games.

its quotes like this that show people cant watch objectively.
yep mcguane had a shocker, but kosi, who mcguane was on kicked 2 goals for the game. who had a day out against him?
also according to the H-Sun he didnt turn the ball over once. not once.

Unbelievebale that someone could quote stats to support McGuane's game last night. If you attended the match you would have been staggered that this guy is many's first choice defender for the tigers. How many goals did his "direct opponent kick" and "oh the ball was going in there too often" are the perennial excuses for him. Did you watch him give away dumb free kicks? Did you watch him take the wroing option by hand? Did you watch him play 10+m off his opponent? Did you watch him get caught holding the ball? It was McGuane at his sublime best last night. f you think last nights game was in any way satisfactory because Kosi kicked 2 goals, you my friend are an idiot.

It's not like the St Kilda key forwards had a day out.
Milne was the difference. Didn't see McGuane line up on him.

Would have kicked 10 if he did

So you're comparing him to these players? How about you ask some non-Richmond supporters if he is that sort of company on the footy field? Please. Report back with your answer. PLease.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

McGuane didnt have a great night but Thursfield was worse. He is really struggling ATM. Would like see to what the Goo has got to give for the 2nd half of the season.

Yep McGuane is the only one guilty of the above. ::)

my post was in response to a post that said he turned the ball over heaps, and his direct opponents had a field day. neither of which are true.
also you may notice i said mcguane had a shocker. I have no prob with post criticizing mcgaunes game, but i dont know why people need to write things that just arent true, such as the 2 points i responded to.

do you think Kosi had a field day?

You don,t agree that Mcguane is not the only one guilty of what you have stated?

He was easily the worst offender. Easily. He somehow mistakes late spoils and bumps for toughness/aggression when it is simply dumb. Has always played that way. And his lack of comp[osure when coming out of defence is second to none. That piece of play in the last when he ran the ball out through the middle of the ground, drew a player and then didn't handpass to his teammate and got tackled and pinged was priceless.

Thursfield got the run around from Milne but was quite good defensively against the bigger guys. He is a great spoiler. Unfortunately he does not have much else to his game.

In terms of dumb free kicks, lax checking, poor decisions who else was up there with McGuane?

White was a disgrace with his tagging efforts on Goddard in the 2nd half, refused to stick to him. Don't understand what he was doing. Numerous times I watched White give Goddard a 5-10m start when the saints had possession.Goddard was the springboard for most of the saints attacks in the second half, and White was tagging him. Just a terrible effort from White, although Goddard is a beast and very hard to match up on. Jackson was probably missed in this regard.

Others I thought were poor -
Nahas - doesn't convert his chances, and the saints ran the ball out of defence too easily.
Morton - his lack of pace and defensive ability may be fatal, although he needs to be the 3rd or 4th target.
Webberly - samll, weak and poor disposal. Give him more time but jeez how many small players can we carry.
Edwards - very ordinary first half, slightly better in the 2nd but a poor game
Simmonds - the usual clunked marks (I counted 4 he seemed in the perfect position to take and he somehow conspired to drop them)

Collins - kicked 2 nice goals but he handballed to stationery target twice when a clearing kick was required. He likes doing u-turns. Hopefully with more games he comes back to his better form.

What arrant nonsense. Yes, he gave away dumb free kicks. But he beat his direct opponent. When he was off briefly in the second, poor Lids had to contest with Kosi who won easily.

Clearly, Milne was the gun forward on the night, so perhaps we should be talking about his opponents.

Fair dinkum, the agendas that some people are running are tiring

LOL at your description of Mcguane,s effort in the last.If you get the chance to watch it.And you,ll notice Mcguane was off balance the whole time he had the ball.He was going in a fwd motion[Staggering] due to mommentum.Your right Priceless for those who only see what they want to see.As for his composure its not the best however life would be so much easier on him and his fellow defenders if thier teamates up feild actually make space for him to kick to.Something the good sides do day in day out.
last night was actually a good comparison how a top 4 sides defence works to a bottom 4 side.Thats where we are at at the momment as a team

Baseless rubbish. :p

McGuane had a pretty poor game no doubt but we I'd be interested to see know if he was at all hampered by anything from the previous week.
Both he an Thursty certainly didn't have their best games.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

No surprise that Dustin Fletcher heads the AFL stats list for 1%'ers this season. Other leaders include Nick Maxwell(Pies), Dale Morris and Brian Lake(Bulldogs), Tarrant(Freo), Lonergan and Taylor(Cats).

Who is the leading Tigers player for 1%'ers?

Surprised & disappointed to see Lids so low in this category. Still has areas of his game to work on.
