Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Amazes me how Thursfield escapes scrutiny around here but McGuane gets a hiding. Thursty is one of the most innocuous backmen in the league. At least McGuane demonstrates some interest in what's happening. I'd have Thursfield out for Moore instead of McGuane in a heartbeat. But that's just me.

Backline is a big worry.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Inside 50's were +18 to the Saints, and if you wtached the game you would have seen the Saint's entries were precision while ours were kick and hope. Horrible job playing in Richmond's defensive 50 at the moment. McGuane poor but he wasn't the worst offender.

The mere fact that Thirsty is our first choice for Milne is a big worry

Spot on, at least mcguane has mongrel and makes his opponent earn every kick.
Thursfield needs to get out of this lethargic- bored look, doesn't show any urgency

I thought we looked really good when we got the ball forward quickly with long kicks inside 50, even to contests.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

The whole backline is absolutely hopeless simple as that. From scratch.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Who cares if McGuane is intense it doesn't make up for the fact that he is sub standard. His kicking is poor to say the least, he gets lost in the contest, cannot handball, cannot break a tackle, picks wrong options and gives away unwarranted free kicks. The lad needs to understand his limitations and at the moment those are components of playing AFL standard footy.

I would personally love to see him shine but you can't polish a you know what.

Lots of guts - not a single brain cell

Sorry - but enough is enough,

This guy will never ascend to a decent level,

I think he keeps getting games because we have no better options.

But - enough is enough,

Makes the Kellaway boys look like the absolute legends they were - albeit - SKILLED! (and that is saying something) ;)
Good post. Well said. Agree.

Not a good matchup

NFD!

first game "off" for McGuane in a long long while against the Saints

naysayers will try to claim it's the norm

Yep....the "talls" in Moore, McGuane and Thursfield all lack a bit. All clumsy and give away silly frees, fall to ground etc. etc. And we haven't had a decent small defender in I can't remember how long. Newman the best by a mile.

I actually laughed at this,

I'm glad someone else saw the humour :clap

I mean - seriously ..........

Luke McGuane is a gutsy player,

He tries really really hard,

..... and sometimes he is gutsy enough to play an overall effective game .........

BUT - if anyone truly believes he is an excellent/superior/skilled/valued AFL backman - then we are in for another 30yrs of mediocrity.

The only reason he keeps getting a game - is because we have nothing better.

Please tell me this guy would get a look in - in a squad of Turner, Garpar, Kellaway, Kellaway - and lets throw Cameron in for good measure.

Our backline needs serious development,

McGuane is not part of the future.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I wonder if Gourdis will be our nominated rookie. Would like to see him get a crack.

Gourdis FB
Astbury CHB
Moore 3rd tall.

Gourdis has a bigger body than Thursfield/McGuane too and is much more athletic. May as well give him the Silvester treatment and see if he has anything to offer. He's been off and on the list for a few years now so it's now or never.

agree, fits right in with that group - they sure weren't good enough,

bar Scotty !

Please tell me you're joking,

Like it or not - several of those made All Australian!

Deservedly!

Luke McGuan wouldn't make starting 22 in 14 other clubs.
