Liam McBean

Griffiths and Vickery have also spent 8-10 minute stretches on the bench in games this year. Beanie is not a great runner (Griffiths leaves him for dead for pace and repeat efforts). It's a running game and we're arguably carrying an extra tall, ergo one of them has to be on the pine quite often. Did some nice things, still finding his feet.

If one was cynical it might appear he was being set up to fail.

Less game time than all bar Lids who played only a half.

Really, just play the kid from the start and let him get into the game. Didn't start any quarter until 8 - 10 minutes in.
Come off it, lamby. He gets the bench more because he's the junior and performing like it. It's not the coach's job to do what's best for Liam to the detriment of the team.

Yeah looks like he was being played on a wing today. As a hit up tall coming out of defence.

Thought he was servicable given game time and experience. Presented, clunked a few. Was quick to give off the ball once he had it. Didn't slow us down, and did a couple of smart little taps and handballs to advantage.

Hardly the best way to develop a youngster, sitting him on the bench? Winning games now is not the best thing for the football club, developing youngsters is.

When he was on he played mostly high forward. Jack played even higher and he then rotated deep. Griff rotated through ruck. Beanie rotated through the bench.

It appeared that if Beanie was deep Jack was high except for only a small period.

When Dusty played deep forward Liam played basically as a decoy forward to clear the forward line.

Thought he presented well, particularly on the wing when we were coming out of defence. Gets absolutely no game time as mentioned previously.

It's as if Dimma is only playing him because he has to, not because he wants to, and is played accordingly.

Did well in the ruck last week for a few stints, didn't see him in the ruck at all today?

Couple of nice taps, handballs. We look better with him on the ground.
That sums up *smile* unfortunately. Only reason the kids are getting a game is because we cannot make finals. They have shown up several senior players and have added much needed pace and run to the side. He has been forced into these selections. You can tell he is just itching to bring back his favs in Lambert and Vickery. Mark my words one of those if not both will be back next week.

Words marked. I think you are wrong, neither will be brought in.

He dosnt deserve the bench this guy is a AFL footballer

Seriously don't get the hate.

He doubled his possession count from the previous week.

Jack only touched the ball three more times than Liam, but in way more time actually on the ground. The supposedly superior Daniher only had half his possessions, albeit hitting the scoreboard twice. (Similar to Liam's game last week actually)

Plenty of unselfish play, including a goal assist to Miles when he could have had a snap.

Effective outlet on the wing, and clearly starting to adjust to the pace of AFL vs VFL. Gets around the ground, generally to good positions, rather than lurking in a pocket or the goal square.

Pretty good for a 21 year old 200cm guy in his 4th game in the seniors.

Yeah we talked about it at the game today, especially Vickery being benched when he was on fire one game.

Hardwick really has a tin ear. Our rotations forward and midfield rarely make any sense.

Had the ball kicked to him three times in the first half, the first one was at his toes and the next two he made a good fist of but the kicks gave the defender ample time to spoil.

With limited game time and limited opportunities he wasn't as bad as some are suggesting.

Thought his game was more than acceptable for what I'd expect from a 4th game at AFL level for a young tall. Showed progress from last week which is a good sign, looked more comfortable at the level. Looking to see further improvement next week.

Dont really understand why people on here are jumping all over him and taking glee in proving other posters wrong, especially when he is a young player who is showing signs at AFL level - each to their own I suppose.

I didn't mind his game for all the reasons others have said, he's a smart footy player and is still a unique developing tall..

I think its pretty simple in that the directive is to give him a chance in the 1st, Dimma and selection for the same reasons ToO and other have said haven't been selecting him.

He won't get the same opportunities based on the perceved deficiencies that a Oleg or george will get, so he really needs to make every game count...

I really hope we play him till years end and flog him over preseason, i think he is contracted for next year so if he cant make it by then, then its another home or VFL..

That happened in game one Baloo.

Was that when Old man Fletcher on one leg ran off him and McBean was left huffing and puffing trying to catch up?
It certainly was a piece of McBean magic
Only person that year Fletcher could out run.

I think this is a fair assessment.
The major question for me is whether he's showing more in the role he's playing currently than say a Ben Lennon.
He needs to clunk a contested mark or two to show the usefulness of his height.
His height is his either his advantage..or his weakness.

McBean's contract is one of many that expires at the end of this year. It's only his 4th game but it's also his 4th year.
There's no doubt he needs to grasp his opportunity now. Needs to have a bigger impact on games to force the club's hand.

I think his goin OK, Beanie has some tricks , contested marking is not one of them . Noticed him hunched over a few times yesterday from I would say was bustin his gut. I like him more then Vickery in the forward half with Jack an BG , hope he keeps getting games and can deliver a bag of 3.

Provided more than TV around the ground.
Definitely pushes up harder.

He ain't a contested marking beast although does bring the ball to ground.

There's a agile Fwd at Sydney who is arguably top 3 in the game that can't mark either but still has an impact

Have to be the worst contested mark of any of the absoulute champion key forwards in the history of the game.

That was actually his second game. The first was against the Pies. Missed a goal from a free kick, although he did have a hand in another one later on along with Corey Ellis.
