Liam McBean

McBean was ok as a hit up half forward today but all of the things that have been said by many here about him at the lower levels are ringing true so far.
He's not yet showing he's going to be anything more than a third tall and that is what holds him back. Just not strong enough in the contest.
However he needs to keep playing if for nothing else so his limitations can be exposed.
That's a pretty good assessment, ToO. The commentary team on 774 assessed his game as forgettable. It is looking increasingly like he's good at VFL level, but has trouble taking the step up to senior football.

Bill and Kev, Beanie is smart on the lead and consistently finds space.
Ultimately you have to find the ball, you don't get 6 points for kicking space between the big ones.

I've said it a few times, I've been to one game of VFL in 2016, plus all senior MCG games.

I find ToO's analysis of Beanie compelling. Taz's not so much.

Simple answer to that

It doesn't fit your narrative that beanie is the 2nd coming of our Lord and savior

The expectations of McBean are ridiculous, as is the bizarre tall poppy syndrome on here.

He has played 4 games.

Shouldve played a lot more by now on his form, and I say that having seen all of his VFL games.

Like anybody he has had really good periods of form, and really bad periods of form, but over a sustained period he shouldve played more than the 3 games prior to today.

Today he played better than last week, and even though he didnt hit the scoreboard, I feel he was a lot more effective than Vickery. There is a big adjustment period to the pace of the game from VFL to AFL, especially when youve played the majority of your games at VFL level, as a tall, in our 'structure'.

Haha indeed he was more effective than Vickery. I didn't even notice Ty on the ground.

Very fair/good post that D85.

Allelujah. Great post.
Runs to all the right spots . The stop and prop gameplan led by Brandon Ellis is his greatest enemy.

Good luck to him next week hope he improves again.

Only caught up with the last page of this thread, but was at the G to watch Beanie today.

First Dimmer is doing him no favours, extended periods on the bench including the first 8 minutes of most quarters and the first ten minutes of the last. Also played decoy forward when Dusty went deep.

Also game plan is atrocious but all players have to deal with that.

That being said a fair game second up. 12 possessions and 6 marks in 65% game time, some nice gives taps and good positioning which helped open up the forward line.

Still half a step off the pace of the game but better than last week.

Went to see Jack and Beanie snag a few today and we came out with the win with zero goals from those two. Good result although must say the standard of ball use today by both sides was pretty poor.

Even though currently I still see the likes of Lennon and Lloyd as the Bean's competition, the big difference between Ty and Liam as talls was that Liam remains involved in the game once the ball hits the ground.
Some say he had no intensity. I didn't see that, I saw a young tall trying hard to have an impact on the contest but not making a huge difference. Still something is better than nothing.

A couple of very good chases when he had no hope following little bomber speedsters.

Didn't set the world on fire, but liked the following ;

Had far more second efforts than big Vickery

Actually chased hard for a big guy

Has a good footy brain, good hands to lay off to those around him

Looked good in the contest with ball on the ground

The one thing I think looks a bit soft is his aerial contest, does get pushed around a bit by his opponent

Think we should, persist think he has some upside.

Bang on. Odd that he is playing only 65-70% game time. But certainly covering the Vickery output.

Definite hold.

Yep.

His running out of time how will he go next week 1 goal in 4 games just won't cut it but might cut him from the list . All those years on a afl list don't think he ever did much weight verk wants his strength and way dos have many tricks

The love for this player is off the show. Would not get a game at another club. So many think that he is an answer to our problems. We aim far to low as McBean is not the answer and never will be. For supporters to keep pumping him up (4 years) just gives people false hope. He doesn't have it

I agree his crap have never seen anything to like VFL standard at best

Leave the kid alone he's shows plenty. He should sue Dimma and the club for dreadful way they've managed him and lack of opportunities he's been afforded. Is 3 years behind schedule because of a brain dead coach. Just needs games and to bulk right up. Did some nice things today and gave good contests.
