Liam McBean

McBean plays tall and small. He'd be an awkward match up at senior level with decent delivery.

I concede one thing about him - you only play him in a structure that supports forwards that actually play forward of the ball.

Which means he doesn't get played under Hardwick.

If I was him I'd be holding out for a new coach. I'm hoping like hell his childhood love of the club sees him through the next few months.

Yeah. Just needs to force either Lloyd or Lids out out of the team as small forwards and he's set!!

Nah, he can play key forward in the richmond way set up. I'm sure he can stay in the goal square and flap his arms.

Fly him over, at least, shout him a pie, and have him watch Westoff. Cause I reckon thats who he could be.

What a whole lot of herrings being regurgitated ATM.

We have 4 natural forwards at the club. Jack, Lloyd, Beanie and Lennon.

Natural forwards are gold. They are super efficient finishers, they read the ball better than others and react quicker when a goal is in the offering. They are skilled. They find the right space. They can kick freak goals. Beanie like Jack also can create. Lloyd and Lennon can too but are more selfish forwards (that's OK).

Lloyd, Beanie and Lennon all have areas to work on but that doesn't mean they don't play until weaknesses are fixed. You maximise the unique strengths and build the rest. If Lennon's workrate or pace end up being a liability then maybe he doesn't play. Similarly with Beanie, but if you don't try your best forwards it is unlikely you will reach your offensive potential.

Hardwick though will kill the goose while searching for the golden egg. He just really doesn't like or really understand an expansive game plan.

Westoff is an excellent contested mark.

wait a minute fellas, are you trying to tell me beanie cant mark, has a tiny tank AND has to run around in the shower to get wet? may as well nail him to a cross.

Nail him to a pole. The Beanpole.

VFL Report:

Liam McBean
15 disposals, nine contested possessions, 12 hit-outs, three clearances, one goal

Played through the ruck and I thought he had great intensity around the contest. We didn’t quite dominate the hit-outs, but we won clearances on the day and he was a big reason for that. He didn’t impact the scoreboard as much as he normally does, but he still kicked a goal.

Surely not? That is the most positive review of a game of him by McCrae this year.

Dimma has no reason to not picking him this week. Especially after the last month of SoV's
exhibition.
