Liam McBean

I was out Saturday night with a mate of Hardwicks and he said apparently McBean simply doesn't do what is asked and chances of being selected are remote. But he had no idea what it is that they actually ask him to do.

Like the Bean even more now that this has been confirmed.

The Bean dog.

the club is a shambles.

no one burns through promising key forwards like we do.

But if can't hold his ground in a marking contest as David quite rightly pointed out, then he can't be a key forward.

Sounds like he should be played on a wing but does he have the tank for that?

fine, i shouldve said tall forward.

either way, we have no idea how to develop them.

Reiwoldt is a miracle. he suceeded despite the misfortune of being drafted by us.

Can gunston hold his ground? He moves around and leads. Something the Bean dog can do.

Get him in the seniors, give him a role that doesn't pretend that he is going to out-muscle big opponents and let's see if he can actually contribute at that level or trade him to a club that has more brains than we do.
??? :headscratch
He won't survive in the AFL as a 202cm small forward who can't ruck.

I reckon he would.

Small forwards who outreach their opponents are rare.

Ok, I forced myself to watch the VFL match against Collingwood and basically I saw the continued misuse of McBean.

He looks like he hasn't put on much muscle at all since we drafted him, but instead of accepting that he is not going to be a power KPP we try to treat him like that as being the major marking target early in games, and when that inevitably fails because he simply gets bodied out of the contests we then do things like throw him into the ruck against opponents 20KG heavier than him and then he busts a gut trying to compete and is burnt out well before 3/4 time.

When he does get near the footy you see the smart tap-ons, handballs etc. that show that he has footy smarts a level higher than most of the others in the VFL side (and a lot of our current AFL side) but instead of finding a way to capitalise on someone who can play good footy we have the mindset that he must play the "Big man" role and we are basically wasting him.

Get him in the seniors, give him a role that doesn't pretend that he is going to out-muscle big opponents and let's see if he can actually contribute at that level or trade him to a club that has more brains than we do.

Like I've said for two years, he's a small forward not a tall forward.

Thanks for backing me up Dave.

Harrys comparison to Gunston is a good one.
shame the one dimensional thinkers at RFC don't see the same.

So he doesn't follow instruction yet he should be promoted? Surely the young players in the twos who follow instructions would feel justifiably pissed off if that were to happen.

It is so obvious that Dimma doesn't rate Beanie at all and by now Beanie must nave resigned himself to the fact that the only way he will ever play AFL footy is to go to another club who can give him the confidence n his own ability. He is not the first tall that fails to ignite at Punt Road and wont be the last to leave then shine at another club.
