Watched it on the t.v. Yeah I know, soft as, just glad I didn't waste my afternoon sitting out in the rain watching that garbage. Beanie worked hard, I'm probably sort of glad that Soldo got a head knock n we had to push Beanie up into the ruck in support of Ivvy. It means he got to stay involved in the game n made sure he got plenty of work during the game.
Absolute crap game by the team but I'd have the Concareter, Shorty n Beanie in the pipeline for inclusion next week, if nothing else they've earned an opportunity simply on work ethic.

Yep. He was playing high forward and was involved early but playing ruck kept him in the action. I really felt for Callum Moore at full forward in the first half. I don't think he had one ball kicked in his general direction.

Liam was pretty solid. Competed well, tackled well, rucked surprisingly well.

I know it was wet today but what do newbies to watching our VFL team think of our delivery?

Richmond way was on show today, just like Friday night. All players drawn to the contest no outside support, the opposition with outriders back and side and options forward. I doubt we had more than a handful of plays where we actually found loose men forward although it opened up a bit in the end.

Yep, even at VFL level the Richmond way is well known and easily countered by any decent 2nds coach. Our team loaded with AFL listed players cannot score one goal in 3 Qts with this absolutely useless game-plan. Where we use the ball so ineffectively that we quickly fall behind, so then we stack the backline with one or more spare. Thus, with the few forward forays from stoppages due to what you describe, it means our forwards are hopelessly outnumbered or out of position. So quick rebound back into their FL. Starts all over gain. Just a vortex of futility.

Expecting an individual player is going to alter or transform this situation is delusional. Don't mind Liam replacing Griffiths next week. He probably has more skill than Vickery and more endeavour, more skill than Hampson. My concern has just been on his strength and physique. He could look part of a winning team maybe over next two games. Will just hide how weak we are until next decent opponent.

But while we keep playing in this style, Wayne Carey would not make a huge difference.

It's unfortunate for Griffiths but we finally going to get four weeks of McBean.

It's the perfect scenario for McBean.

But if he burns and demands out at years end after showing something, we will look stupid.

Balls in your court Liam. Finally.

Stop *smile* with everyone's sanity aussy, surely no-one would be stupid enough to put both the Hamster n Ivvy into the same team with the " form " they are both showing. Hard pressed to justify either one at the moment, if we put both up together next week even I might start calling for a change of coach.

Didn't think he'd touch it today given the conditions, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Got to plenty of contests all over the park, influenced the ball in the air, brought the ball to ground on a day when very few marks were taken, hit the scoreboard (albeit without major reward) more than anyone else in the team, and rucked effectively after Soldo went down early.

For a 200cm forward, on a very wet day, with rubbish delivery, and in a team that took 3 quarters to kick a goal... it was a pretty solid 4 quarters of footy.

Drier conditions, afl quality delivery, and no more sub rule will give the Beanster a chance to truly show his wares. Just hope he gets the call up.

Oh, and for all those who have been bagging him off match reports and stats sheets - maybe a little credit where it's due for a guy who's near the top of the VFL goal kicking (again), despite the utterly pathetic delivery he's been copping all season. It's no coincidence that his best games have been those when we actually ran a half decent midfield in the twos.

And it's not just McBean who's suffering - our other afl listed kids are going to struggle to develop in such a poorly skilled and structured team. Too many suburban footballers with no skills - it's like playing with 5 men down. Seriously, it's an absolute indictment on whoever put together the VFL list this season. If we're not going to do it properly, why bother with a standalone team? Typical bloody Richmond.

Was a lot better after he went into the ruck. A few one-handed marking attempts in the first half.

He wasn't bad in the ruck.

Thanks for the report good stuff

Why do i get the feeling it will be Maric in for Griff, with Hampson and Maric in the same team.
Anything but play this bloke..

SO true BS. Great wrap.

Really dont know what anyone who questioned Beans performance today were expecting.

Played bloody well in the circumstances, but we do have a coach who has zero idea how to develop talent so who knows what selection will be like.

There will be significant question marks if we don't see McBean a few times before the end of the season. Either now or later on. Question marks on the Brains trust or on McBeanie himself. Brace yourselves McBeanites ;D

Tom hafey said nothing more tigerish than a tiger.

Im saying nothing more delusional than a deluded feral.

This thread says it all.

Dud!!!!

More backhand complements for the Beanie from our stick wielding coaching staff

Liam McBean
13 disposals, 18 hit-outs, five tackles, one goal

Had to go in and play second ruck when Ivan Soldo was concussed early. It actually sparked his intensity in the game. He had 18 hit-outs and five tackles and it was the first time in recent weeks he played ruck and actually showed something  for us in that position. He finished the game with 1.3 too, so it could have been a bigger outcome for him.

If only our senior team had such public assessments from our coaching staff.

It's kind of wrong isn't it? We publicly name and shame the pups of the group but protect those getting the real $$$ and opportunities.

Perfect carrot n stick coaching.
Give him some praise, pee all warm n fuzzy in his pocket, give him a little sniff of the nice fresh, juicy carrot to let him know you're happy with what he did well in his game. Then give him a little poke with the stick to let him know not to get a lazy fat head over the praise n these are the standards you expect from him regularly.
Probably deserves to be allowed a little munch on the end of the tasty carrot for doing some good stuff, give him a senior game n promise him he can have a whole carrot if he does well in said senior game.
Reckon there's a chance the Beanie farce will trend towards feral if he doesn't get a game on Thurs night.
