Liam McBean

McBean is a lost cause for mine. If he hasn't secured a game when the form of our senior forwards has been so poor then I don't think he will.

He should have been given more opportunities earlier in his career. Has been VFL'ised and won't make the step up IMO.

More backhand complements for the Beanie from our stick wielding coaching staff

Liam McBean
13 disposals, 18 hit-outs, five tackles, one goal

Had to go in and play second ruck when Ivan Soldo was concussed early. It actually sparked his intensity in the game. He had 18 hit-outs and five tackles and it was the first time in recent weeks he played ruck and actually showed something  for us in that position. He finished the game with 1.3 too, so it could have been a bigger outcome for him.

Sounds about right to me. Did a job against a bottom of the ladder team without dominating the game.

Wish Vickery and B Ellis were given similar public assessments for their recent performances by their coach.

Sunday provided perfect conditions for a marking, 203cm tall forward ;D.

Did you critique the onballers as harshly?

Yep but this has been a VFL initiative and when those players are in the reserves they are subject to adsessments too. What do you think of the comments about Liam?

I didnt mention playing forward or marking.
Which part did you disagree with?

Im calling *smile* on those stats.

Watching start to finish (ughh) he had 9 or 10 disposals at half time then I saw him get it at least another 10 times. Either that or I'm going crazy. On the flip side, Conca's seem inflated. Coverage commentators said he had 32, VFL report lists him at 36 disposals.

Dont agree with the way its written, but I think it would be a fair assessment - albeit one that doesnt really take into account the conditions and how that would affect the game of a 200+cm player of his frame.

I thought he did quite well in the ruck, but struggled to get involved inside 50 - hardly surprising considering the conditions and the horrible delivery that was heading his way on the rare occasions they got into our half of the ground.

My issue is the double standards that are at play. That Ty was able to keep his spot after his game against Freo was a disgrace. We shall see I guess on Friday when our team is announced whether Brandon keeps his spot, but going on Hardwick's past decision making I'm not holding my breath.

Agree. If you haven't seen him by now in this *smile* side. Forget about it his goneski

H'es gotta already have a foot out the door. Why else would he have not been selected by now? Maybe Hardwick knows he's gone?

I'd respond this way. You don't look at the player's performance in isolation. You look at it in context with the other big men on the ground, Big Ben McEvoy's brother for example. Took marks, some contested, played the ball with more surety. Same conditions, arguable less skilled teammates, but played and deserved to be in the best three on the ground. McBean was a long way behind him on the day around the ground. McBean's saving grace on the day was his ruck work - it was good to watch, and on that alone you would have him ahead of Maric in the same conditions again. But AFL usually has better conditions, so I'm not sure how to line up his ruck form. I'm very pro McBean getting some senior game time, but gee, he was ordinary on Sunday compared to other big men on the ground that day in the VFL.

Agree - it's not like we'll lose trade secrets or the Richmond jewels

Yep absoulutly nothing to lose, has no trade currency ATM, plays well in a few games he may have some or we can simply continue on with him or he doesn't perform we can free up a spot on the list

Yep. Think McEvoys brother is Peter? Both he and the Coburg ruckman ?? The big lumpy fella had far better games than Ivvy n Beanie, but Beanie for mine was also better than Ivvy.

Bloody funny, that people are bagging Ty for his performance as a key forward in a senior side that was totally obliterated by Norf yet want Beanie promoted to the seniors when he only performed after he was shifted into the ruck to cover for Soldo. Beanie didn't perform any better as a forward at magoos level than Ty did as a forward at senior level. Both had *smile* all viable opportunities in a team belting in *smile* conditions.
