Which would indicate the VFL was the Bummer 4ths just the same wouldn't it.

So by that comment the Beanster must have been playing against the Essendrugs fourths, yet still couldn't kick a goal or more importantly get mentioned as being among our best players for his game.Coburgtiger said:He snagged a few against the essendon 3rds,

Seems to me that all our key forwards struggle to have a lot of input or involvement at times when playing mainly as the deep forward at senior level , probably because our mids n running players rarely deliver clean accurate fast ball into our forward half.
Can't see any reason why Beanie would suddenly elevate to elite performance against a seniors team when he's not giving elite performance against a magoos team. Jaaack, Ty, Griff, Lids rarely dominate or control a game when they are deep forward because we shuffle it in so slowly n then try to cherry pick a target. They all just bob up for moments.
Jaaack plays up the ground a lot nowadays, so does Griff in his ruck support role, Lids also gets to run up n down the ground for periods.
That leaves Ty as our main structural forward n with our chipping n reversing n sideways n hugging the boundary turnover game style I'm surprised he doesn't chuck a wobbly every week trying to get hold of some half decent ball.
Reckon Ty's currently playing old K.B.s version of starvation corner n he's not quite the player K.B. was.
Coburgtiger said:I'm just not sure what else Beanie can do. He would have had a big influence on the game if his team mates could use the ball. He set up four or five goal scoring opportunities (of which only one day capitalised on). He took a stack of marks, which is apparently all that matters. He contested in the air, and got to a heap of contests.
Isn't that what he was supposed to be working on?
I suppose he could go back to kicking a lot of goals at full forward, but then he would be not running up the ground enough taking contested marks.
His ball use and creativity was sublime, and he was doing all that boring running and contesting rubbish too.
I just don't know what the expectation is for him. He could come in right now and be more useful than Hampson, Vickery, or Hunt. Vickery would be the sensible option.

Ummmm!Baron Samedi said:bah, so in your book Beanie never gets a go even though Griff and Ty are gifted game after game.
the lad might improve at senior level but we'll never know eh?
Typical propaganda fluff.lamb22 said:The cornerstones for this turnaround were key Tiger talls Liam McBean and Ivan Maric who clunked four contested marks apiece and provided a consistent aerial presence throughout the evening.
Although McBean went goalless for the night, his ability to continually provide a target and his work rate between the arcs was exceptional as he finished with 16 disposals, ten marks and three inside 50s.

Historically: Bean kicks 6 goals from 8 possessions. Dimma: "Look Liam, great that you got on the end of a few at various stages. But the fact of the matter is that for your development, we need you working harder up the ground, taking contested marks before we can get you a game in the 1s."
Now: Bean works hard between the arcs, 4 contested marks but no goals. Dimma: "Look Liam, I know you worked hard at various stages. But the fact of the matter is you're paid to kick goals. We need more goals from you if you are to get a run in the 1s"

yes, whether you agree with it or not when reading the vfl reports for the last 2 years or so this has been the consistent theme for Mcbean. What he has been asked to do is work hard, get to contests and use his height and athletic ability to greater effect.Tigers of Old said:Funny how it was his most convincing effort of the season and the club credited him with it..

As i said, people don't have to agree with it but to me it has been a totally consistent message
Mappa said:Well said Sin. I watched him for the third time this year yesterday and it was the first time he looked like he was in the contest all day didn't stop. A few more efforts of that quality and he will get his chance.
