Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

West Coast are probably the most physically strong team in the league. They're not who you'd be debuting McBeanpole against.

I'd rather he debuted next season, but if we do try him, then maybe against GWS and GC could be better and safer.

With Glass, Brown, Mackensie et el, they have some good / big defenders. Like to see McBean get a game against Adelaide at the G

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

I reckon McBean handles himself well against the stronger fellas. Played on a nuggety type last match and didn't seem to faze him. Not surprised he hasn't been selected going all the way west but reckon he'll get his chance this year. Won't be expecting miracles but will certainly feel better about us giving himn experience over playing battlers like Edwards and McGuane.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Does anybody think of McBean when they mention Joe Daniher burning it up in ressies ? Our boy is showing just as much promise as Daniher . Beanos kicked a few bags ,moves like a rover and has great skills for such a big man....... Liam is our low key Joe Daniher :clap :clap

I thought our drafting at the lower picks was vey shrewd. Thought Mcintosh was a poor man's Plowman, Beanie a poor man's Daniher and Madonna a poor man's Menzel.

Half way through the year its just a bit of weight and strength Daniher appears to have on Beanie and if Liam matches that he could be a rich man's Daniher.

McDonagh also exceeding expectations early.

Young Mcintosh has got plenty of time but shown the least to date.

McBean isn't a *smile* kick for goal either. ;)

And ToO can't believe everyone else passed on him. They will regret this. :hihi

VFL goal results so far this year:

Hogan: 17
Daniher: 19
McBean: 17

Exciting for the comp. Ironically Hogan looks to be the most ready physically yet needs to wait 12 months.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Love Lean McBean, but I think Daniher looks more of a true tall at the moment. Having said that McBean's ground play and agility is almost unheard of for a player of that height. It's going to be very enjoyable watching the two boys develop over the next few years.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

the way mcB is going he deserves a go at the big time. and considering tv and ivan arent standing out with their performance, maybe dimma should act on his words and implement his ideal that effort in the seconds, and not effort in the first should take effect.
the kid has done more than enough in the seconds, prooved more than the likes of griffo, astbury etc, so why shouldnt he be given a go.
skinny, young blah blah....give him a go!!!!!

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Like the thinking re rewarding him, Lids, but I'm not sure it'd be like for like. I haven't attended any Coburg games; does anyone know if he's rucked at all this year? From what I've seen, he's playing as a forward exclusively. And as good as he is (and vigorous), I don't think he'd be able to dish out the crash and bash that's required of Ty and Ivvy.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

if and when he gets a game, it would purely be as the 3rd tall - there is no way he is up to rucking as his body is not up to it at the moment, so sorry lids - he would not come in for either Maric or TV.

Saying that, I hope he gets a few games this year to see how he goes and give him a taste and sooner rather than later.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Think it's basic smart work from both Esserdope n us to leave the Beanie n Daniher to enjoy a season of growth and development in the magoos. They are both still kids growing into massive bodies, let them learn their footy and grow into their frames for a season at a level much higher than junior footy without physically smashing them or burying them under the expectation of AFL.
If either are fortunate enough to get a senior run this year then hopefully against a side where their more experienced team mates can protect them somewhat.
