A question for the Coburg watchers: how's Beanie tracking compared with Jack's first season?

I've seen 3 McBean games and have been as excited as watching the 4th leg of a quadie steam in. I don't remember Reiwoldt ripping it up in his first few games and do remember being uncertain if he was any good at all until his break out year in 2011.

THB all I can tell you is this kid is unique. He IS special. He does things that few 205 cm players can do as he moves with rare coordination for such a big guy.But then it all makes sence when you find out he was a gun midfielder one night and woke up a giant the next day.

He is not close to Danaher in the air but still McBean is pretty good in that area. But below his knees or in a pack, I can't think of any 200cm and above player to be soooo gooood. Including NicNat, Peter Moore, Jim Stynes anyone.

Time to STOP THE MCBEAN FAAAAAARCE!!!!!!

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

the game I saw he didn't actually look that tall but he did look like a bean poll so it makes sense that he does have the height. He is very smooth the way he moves and ability to pick the ball up from the turf, makes it look as if everyone everyone around him is standing still - dare I say Griffith like (below the knees) for a big player ::)

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

I saw a fair bit of Jack in his first year and I thought he was a bona fide match winner at VFL level from pretty early on. I'm pretty sure it was his first year,at least. Jack didn't play much ressies in his second year did he?

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

On par with Jack. In fact he reminds me of Jack just taller and skinnier.

We have a winner here.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

He does take marks BJ, but mostly on the lead and sometimes one on one. Not really built for crashing packs at the moment. Probably doesn't have the leap of, say, Todd Elton, but his hands are pretty good.

Don't have to leap much when you are that tall, but I disagree with many posters here, seen him take a few good contested marks. No question he reads the ball very well in flight, once he gets a bit of size on him I would say he is better overhead than Vickery, and I rate Tyrone. I've called it already with my Bomber friends, Mr Bean will be better than Daniher!

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

On the money Cambridge.

Bean has the infrastructure. How far he takes it is up to him. And from what I've seen I know he wants it. In a way that griff doesn't.

He doesn't have to leap tall buildings. He is the building.

He's a freak and I'd love someone to tell me how he made it to 33. Did he lose his virginity or summin last summer? What has turned him from a maybe ruckman into a bona fide buddy in the oven?

I don't think he'll play until next year.

He will. He has shown 10 times more then that toffee apple Daniher

Exactly, Daniher might have ability but our boy has ability and a better football brain.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Not sure how he made it to 33. He played mostly in defence last year and mustn't have showcased his freakish agility quite as well as he could have. Had he shown what he has so far this year he surely would have gone top 10

What does all the mcbean talk mean for Elton? Is Todd now shot or is there room for both? Seems unlikely.

Room for both in the future
TV rucking
Elton McBean Riewoldt forward (maybe Griffiths)
Rance Grimes Astbury in the backline

Moved down back in the last 2 ressie games. Needs 1 more year. Good hands. That's about it at the moment.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Reckon we leave Elton in the backline for a while, see what he's capable of. Has good attributes for a defender.
