With the bold text, do you have any idea what is being asked of Liam? I reckon this would be really interesting to know and it, if made clear, would quickly cease comment from one side of the 'play Liam' debate.
Ok K3. I have said I've based my opinions on reports (coaches and PREnders) and stats. I think it's reasonable to assume the things I've highlighted are things they'd like Liam to be more consistent with.
Get to more contests. Have an impact. Get his own ball. Lift work rate. Give 4 quarter performances. Work harder at the contest. Work with other forwards. Lead instead of play behind.
Are they unreasonable? What does the following do to the "play Liam debate"? To me the PREnder quotes pretty much support what the coach says. Do you and Harry and Lamby, who probably don't see as many games, think they are wrong?
I'm sure we'd all love Liam to make it. No player bashing. No conspiracies. No putting him up on a pedestal either.
Round 1
VFL Coach-
Two goals, five disposals, three contested possessions
He’s struggling a little bit with his form,
we’re really asking him to get to more contests. He started the game on fire, with two goals against the breeze which really set us up for the day, but
struggled to have an impact for the rest of the day.
PRE comments-
Doesn’t chase hard when ball not in his hands (ryan)
Didn’t put his hand op for senior selection (taztiger)
Round 2
Coach-
Liam McBean
Five goals, 17 disposals, eight marks, two contested marks
Liam’s best game this season and we’re really pleased that he’s
coming at the ball instead of waiting for the ball to come to him. His
work-rate really increased this week.
PRE
McJesus very few touches but ended up with 5 Goals (1 contested mark) (taztiger)
Round 3
Coach
Liam McBean
15 disposals, four contested marks, ten contested possessions, one goal
Liam started the game really strongly. He was a main reason why we were four or five goals up at half time. He had four contested marks; all of them inside 50, which is a good sign for him. Ten contested possessions is also a reflection of him coming at the football. He
died off in the second half which was a little bit symbolic of the team.
PRE
McBean and Griffiths started OK but lack lustre after first quarter
The coaching staff should sit both players down to watch replay of game and show them what effort does to win ball
Please no one post McBean to be in ones this week (ryan)
Lennon, Griffiths and McBean were very disappointing (ToO)
McBean looked mentally shot. I think he’s cooked. (scoop)
McBean, Griffiths, Lennon, Moore were arrogantly ordinary, just thought they would run around comfortably and do it by talent over effort. (iluvdisco)
Best maybe you get to a game Lamb Chops as I have been pretty hopeful of the bean making it but was left very 50/50.
His opponent was at least 2 inch's shorter than him so you would expect he would go ok marking wise..but I never felt comfortable anytime the ball went into the forward line that he would dominate. (Berwick boy)
Round 4
Coach
Liam McBean
One goal, four disposals, two tackles
Had a really quiet, disappointing game, with only four disposals and one goal.
Needs to work harder at the contest.
PRE
He's out there, but no impact. Ditto McBean.
Another strong defensive mark to Griffens gives him more contested marks than Beanie and Chol have had touches between them. (spook)
McBean and Chol aren't going to get much of the ball by trailing 5 meters behind the defenders. (smoking aces)
I love the Bean but he's been woeful tonight. (spook)
Beanie: Twice competed in the air with the requisite aggression. The rest of the time played from behind and flew with one hand. Disappointing. (spook)
Round 5
Coach-
Liam McBean
One goal, nine disposals, three marks
Struggled on the day. He had limited opportunity early, but his
connection with the other forwards was poor. We need a
stronger four-quarter contribution from him
PRE
Mcbean kicked 2 but was outmarked by his opponent many many times. Did well in last few minutes of game when moved up back and got some touches. (ryan)
Round 6
Coach
Liam McBean
Four goals, 10 disposals, seven marks
Another team member who played his role well. Four goals (4.2) was a good outcome for him on the back of
hitting up on the lead and taking five marks inside 50.
