Sintiger said:From what I have seen of him at Coburg and in Richmond 2nd he has played mostly as a giant half forward flanker. Incredibly clever and dangerous for a big man.
He has never taken enough marks or got to enough marking contests and if he doesn't do that on the big stage his crumbing and agility will not be enough, he will just get buffeted out of the contest.
he has to be a double threat at AFL level, both in the air and on the ground. That doesn't mean he has to mark like Royce Hart, it just means that he needs to take a few grabs, get to contests and cause crumbs. His agility will make it hard for the 200cm guy he has to play on then rather than the more mobile 3rd tall who would play on him now who won't be threatened by his marking and can match him on the ground.

Sheesh! According to the club website he was drafted in the 2012 draft, that occurs at the end of the 2012 season not before. So he's completed the 2013 and 2014 seasons and is about to commence the 2015 season,Stylo said:It's his fourth. He was drafted with Ellis.
TigerMasochist said:Griffinator has come from a lower junior base than Beanie n it's taken him five years to put glimpses into genuine potential. Beanie's had two years n still has plenty of time to grow n develop. Just wish fans would stop expecting all the kids to own the comp within their first season or two.

Tigers of Old said:Does he get a game ahead of Vickery? That's who I see as his chief competition for a spot.

He's had two seasons and is about to start his third season.

Carter said:I worry Dimma is inherently too conservative to play the bloke because he doesn't fit in with the lock, hold and press game plan.
someone raised the prospect of a club raiding for McBean. why wouldn't you?
if this club loses someone of his calibre, both physically and in the leadership stakes, then the next era deserves to come crumbling down. cos he's a cornerstone.
Carter said:Fans need to look closely at the things McBean can do. Sure he had a handful of possessions on Saturday, but we're after signs and skillsets.
a) he took two grabs of very high difficulty. the first in Q3 and the second in Q4. that last one was spinning away like a rocket and he needed to twist his body while running full pelt. he clunked the mofo like he was Richo.
b) he demonstrated elite kicking skills. after the Q3 grab he laid off a pass that was cm perfect. that set shot in Q4 was fair dinkum the best attempt by any player from either side kicking into that northerly. it hit the post 3/4 up but it was 55m directly INTO the hot wind.

Sure he did a couple of nice things but he also struggled on occasions to impact the marking and ground contests and kicked a grubber pass.
We're all looking for signs Carter but not all of them were good and you have the blinkers on if you think all he does is gold.
That said I hope he gets another game in the NAB under better conditions so we can see a bit more of the good stuff.
