Liam McBean

Didn't look good at all.

Wondering if the game at this level is too quick for him.

For a bloke his size he should be playing much taller.

That's the key.
Once he commands a bigger opponent the athleticism become a competitive advantage. But until then you can just play a 6ft 2 defender on him and sure you lose 1 or 2 aerial contests but you nullify him on the ground.

He needs to be a solid overhead player who can then isolate a big defender deep at which point the athleticism becomes a weapon. He will get more one-on-ones on a big with a little bit of space in a dangerous spot on the ground and when the big defender spoils him it does't really matter because he will kill the guy at ground level. It is just gonna take time but I have absolutely no concerns at the moment unless he fails to put on weight by this time next year.

Game a non event so would not read much in regards to McBeans run today. As a teenager used to play the odd game there. An absolute *smile* of a ground , windy & narrow & not suited to todays style of play.

hope this is used as a reason for ty's game but unfortunately I doubt it will. Ty has been thrown to the wolves and Liam is still safe as he hasn't got on the Tits of the mob..... Yet.

And they rejected him thrice before the *smile* crowed. ;D

Change all your forum names to Thomas.

Just listening to Dermie and Jason telling me Beanie is not agile, cant side step, is lumbering and cant kick (implied unco-ordination) was enough misinformation for me today.

Beanie was quiet but 27 inside 50s FFS.

All Beanie needs is some development time, game time, a break even midfield and he'll capitalise better than most.

Said it in another thread, Jesus is the perfect nickname because to believe is to have faith, not proof.

Spot on.
Clark was pillared by some on this site for suggesting that McBean should be taking more marks for a player his size. It is exactly what he needs to do to take the next step

Not much to like today. But tough gig being a key forward in those conditions with that many inside 50s. He struggled to read the game at all. At least he's not on a mil per year for 7 years!

Steady on folks, he couldn't get on the end of it but

1) inside delivery was shithouse
2) there was a gusty northerly pressing to the southeast pocket all afternoon, making it very hard to judge the flight either way.
3) it was bloody hot, it's February! Big bloke like him had his tongue out the side of his mouth.

What do people want?

Almost won VFL goal kicking on shifty grounds and fed by poor midfield.

He will not be putting on weight. He will play like Gunston, only taller.

Faith and patience. He is a superstar in the making.

Of course none of these excuses apply to Vickery who is a huge spud. McJesus on the other hand dies for our sins so that we can be saved

If he kicks another 40 in the VFL, and I'm a bottom for club, I come hard for this bloke in the PSD.

The thought did cross my mind that if an AFL loving alien came down from space and looked at all the key forwards playing yesterday they would have no idea who has the huge contract

:hihi

Although Boyd took an absolute ripper of a grab in the dead pocket. If we're looking for signs, that was a huge neon billboard.

27 inside 50's on a windy day & people question the great man. Crazy!

John Coleman would have struggled up forward in Tiger colours.

Breathe & look at the facts of the day. Then breathe again.

It was a great grab then landed like a cat and hit a pinpoint pass - nice
