Liam McBean

i would just be happy to see that he has the ability to play in the ones.

he looked way way out of his depth the first time he played in the seniors, hopefully he makes a better fist of it next time.

NAB cup last year against Melbourne .H e did miss a fair chunk of the preseason last year after breaking his ankle late in the season .

Posters only ever claim a preseason games counts when it suits their argument.

Great observation. Played on Frawley that game. Entire Richmond team was dreadful and in hindsight was a sign of things to come in first half of season

It wasn't Frawley it was Lynden Dunn.
Sure McBean was coming back from ankle problems but the questions arose from the type of player opposition coaches might use on him to counter his excellent abilities (for a tall) below his knees.
Dunn gave him a whipping defensively and on the counter offensively and that game (albeit a practice match) raised a few questions.
However its unfair to judge him on that performance.
Looking forward to seeing how Liam has progressed in this years NAB challenge..

He was disappointing in that pre season cup game and he did look entirely out of his depth, but that was a year ago, and he's got another year of competition and learning under his belt. The challenge is to break into the side and prove that he's improved.

Very very talented kid and equally unique, my biggest question with McBean is where does he play, 202cm small/ crumbling forward is deifferent

Plus he was completely unconditioned, recovering from a serious injury late in 2013. He did not show much until the second half of the 2014 season.

I don't think people should be too negative, 2014 was disappointing for sure but easily explained. Seems to have had a full pre-season so 2015 will be a much better indicator to his capacity to make it at AFL level.

Yep, he was huffing and puffing heavily before quarter time. No tank.

And don't forget Dunn went on to have an outstanding year in defence and was arguably Melbourne's best defender last year. Beanie will perform much better this year I'm certain.

And that's the thing, we need him to get super fit and turn into our version of Jack Gunston. Don't want to turn him into a 2nd ruck.

Hopefully that Jack Gunston version is the plan. I'll be looking forward to a lot of competition for positions between the boys this year at VFL and AFL level.
