Not sure that forward / ruck is his go TM. At least not in the medium term.

McBean is forward #3, a 200+cm uber Gunston.

Rangy. Elusive. The thing about McBean is I don't think he needs to be part of the whole Vickery / Griffiths debate.

Play him as third tall and tell him to lurk. He's ready now.
Precisely.

Just a thought process on the possible future development of our ruck n forward division Carts.
Problem for the Beanie right at this point n time is Jaaack, Ty, Griff are all ahead of him n covering all the tall forward options we can carry in the one side. We won't run all four forward at once, with a fit Maric, backed by......... yep the Hamster as the spare ruck, there's just nowhere at the moment to put the Beanie.

It's fairly hard to justify playing both Vickery and Griffiths.

McBean brings a point of difference.

As ever, Hawthorn is the benchmark:

Roughhead ----------------> Riewoldt
Hale ------------------------> Vickery / Griffiths
Gunston --------------------> McBean / Deledio / Gordon
Breust ----------------------> Martin / Lloyd / Lennon / Edwards

As you say, can't fit em all.

At 203cm, agile and great below his knees he seems perfect for that 3 Tall/2nd Ruck role. He needs desperately to build his upper body size and strength because as it stands he is a perfect candidate to do both shoulders. The real question is can Griff up his workrate to a level high enough to keep TV out because I think he has more weapons in his arsenal. May be we have trade options because we really need to find a future ruck replacement and a KPB before we can think about being premiers.

If you use Hawthorn as the benchmark, McBeans role is that played by Gunston not Hale as Carter points out. Delidio can play anywhere while I think Gordon would be a great run with player. All for playing Jack plus 2 out of Griffiths, Vickery and McBean.

Will not play a game and will be delisted at the end of the year.

He seems to do the opposite to what people expect on forums, so keep up this talk and he'll instantly become a star :hihi

Very happy with his progress and I can easily see him doing well next year. Jack showed some positive signs in his 3rd year.

What would be reasonable expectations of McBean as he enters his third year?

2-5 Senior games, 4-7 goals.

The problem he has in that we are loaded at his position, he has to get past Ty and Griff.

I wouldn't be as harsh as that but I have serious doubts on him making it. from what ive seen just doesn't seem to have that aggression and toughness to make it. just my opinion, hope im wrong

There was a similar opinion on Griffiths, that he didn't have the aggression or presence. Early last year he began to find it. He is really confident in a pack now.

Beanie still has a couple of years before needing the radical intervention that The Griffin had last year.

Liam McBean will be a very very good footballer, He doesnt lack aggression at all (isnt aggressive against the player but super competetive at the ball)

2016 is the year he will be ready to stake his claim and there will be a few under the pump to keep their spots

Beautiful problem to have. Jaaack, Ty n Griff as our current matured key forwards with the Beanie n Rice a Reecey tucked away in development mode while their bodies mature. If Beanie gets half a dozen games n up to nearly ten goals while still growing he'll be a bonus
When Dimma first came to Tigerland he had no choice other than to bash games into a huge bunch of youngsters and hope they could stand up to the weight of senior footy. Now we've got a strong enough core group to get us playing finals capable footy while still allowing youngsters to grow and mature in the magoos without being smashed at senior level when they're not ready.
Things obviously aren't guaranteed to be perfect and choc full of premierships over the next ten years, but I'm pretty sure that the club have put a competent and sustainable growth n development system in place that will see us be highly competitive and most importantly regenerative in future years.
To be able to give kids like Beanie, Lennon, Madonna, McIntosh, Elton, plus hopefully all the newbies the necessary time to grow up at reserves level without having to line them up in the seniors after one pre season is pure bonus for the club n playing list.
We've been very fortunate in recent years that our premium newbies in Cotch, Dusty, Concareter, Brandon n Flossy have been able to step into senior footy almost immediately, but it's also a good way to smash promising kids out of the game in a big hurry.
