We all know 200cm + players take time to develop and adopt the the standards of AFL.

why do people keep saying this?

such a cliche to node sagely and say "yes, the lad needs time." why?

some KPFs don't need the long VFL gestation - think Jack Riewoldt. Joe Daniher. McBean is one of these.

he was in line for an earlier debut before he did his ankle.

get your head out of the sand buddy :hihi

I'd forget about our press, keep +1 in defence and play McBean, Griff and Jack in an open forward line.

See how St Kilda and Sydney handle them apples.

not sure about you, but "exceptional" talent can be identified at any level.
Big call there. There's lots of draft picks that must have been seen as exceptional at TAC level that didn't make it at AFL.
He clearly does some things exceptionally well - but if the Club is right - there's other parts that are below par.
Hopefully we'll get the long term benefits of this bloke that will mean a slightly longer apprenticeship and wait was worth it.

If we get rolled this week i'm happy for the kid to get a game against the Aints, the boy needs a taste!
But I wouldn't be unhappy with this either.

In 2007 Jack played 8 games and in 2008 played 18.

In 2007 we won 3 games

In 2008 we won 11 Games

From 2009 onwards Jack was a regular in the team.

What has changed since then? For one our development of players has improved 100%

I would love to see Lean and Mean play but I believe barring injury from next year he will be a regular and may well win the rising star....

Maybe, just maybe, McBean is the sort of player Dimma cannot afford in his defensive setup. Look at Joe Daniher at Essendon. Mark Thompson has no problems playing the lad there and he's going ok and getting valuable games. Just because McBean ain't getting a game doesn't mean he has "below par" attributes. Besides, with better players around him his perceived flaws might be mitigated.

Much as I want Beanie in the side, this is potentially the worst logic with which to argue the case.

"Let's do what Essendon do, we all know how much they care about player welfare."

Well yeah. Except for the broken collarbone.

I'm as keen as anyone to see Beanie begin his brilliant career, but Daniher is a poor example. He was a liability on Friday night. Chaplin destroyed him.

Maybe McBean is not ready. Maybe he isn't meeting any of the standards that the club is setting him in the vfl. Maybe he hasn't developed physically at this point.

Yep. The article 'I’ve got work to do: McBean' in the RFC website says it all. Beano has to work on his defensive side a lot more and he knows it.

There's no need for us to fall for the 'Justin Plapp syndrome' again.

sorry CT but that is unmitigated slime.

you know full well my point doesn't hinge on doing what Essendon does. the point is we can accommodate Beanie with the right setup.

and joe daniher hasn't set the world on fire but he's gotten a bunch of senior games this season. don't think he's as good as Beanie but he's going ok.

his coach believes in AFL exposure.

next?

can't argue the point?

that was easier than I thought.

Nothing to argue. You wrongly assumed I agreed he was exceptional and then based an argument on that. You're just making *smile* up again.

ok, i'm happy to accept then that you don't think he's exceptional.

and promptly ignore all other opinions you have on football. :hihi

Not sure I said he wasn't exceptional but hey, we'll both be happy if you ignore my posts so let's leave it at that.
