Juniors to watch - 2012

Yeah, I would. Although we desperately need a mid, I think he is too good to pass. He's the next Goddard or Pav I suspect. That he has broken his leg means he could drop in our lap.

Similar to Selwood dropping to 5th spot when he shoulda gone #1

Interesting. I am not convinced that Stringer won’t end up a mid. Hasn’t looked like his athleticism is the same but is winning the ball based on pure footballing ability. Which he has plenty of. I do wonder about how much work he can do on the leg based in the bush. Think in the structured environment of the AFL with top flight facilities he can get better quickly. He is the wildcard of this draft. If the Bulldogs have two picks in the top 10, I would use one of them on Stringer.

Either Melbourne (if they get Viney in the 2nd round) , the Bulldogs or Brisbane will make a play at the mini draft so I'm not sure that Stringer will be in the mix for them. The Bulldogs also might be tempted by Plowman more than Stringer. If Gold Coast or GWS do the right thing and make Melbourne use a early pick on Viney it will certainly help us later in the draft.

Big call Uncle considering some of the talent on offer at our pick. Would you offer it up for Caddy?
Not entirely sure I would use it on a mid Aces, If a quality KP defender was on the cards then definitely.

Have liked a few things from Caddy but if I wanted a young Mid then I'd probably look at the GWS kids.
If Caddy did want out(which I honestly don't think he does) then pick 9 would be fine by me.

Having 2 x picks around the 30 mark should enable us to get a couple of quality mid's anyhow.
Its the big blokes that are hardest to find & I strongly believe this is where your list manager earns his money, unfortunately for us I don't have much faith in ours!

One thing I do know is that the RFC needs to grow a set & grab a quality player that will increase our lists ability to win games.

Its that time of year.

RFC's year has finished, leysy now to turns to this years junior crop. :-\

I suspect this thread will be flooded very soon.

Will be scanning over all the prospects in the coming weeks.

Mids/HFF's with pace, skill and class please.

First pick ...classiest most skillful player they can get. If he's also tough great.
Second pick...see above.
Third pick...see above...oooorrrrrr....could be tempted with a tall forward depending what's left.

It looks like one of Kennedy, Wines, Garlett, Stringer, O'Rourke, Vlastuin, Mayes, Macrae & Simpson will be available at our first pick. Not a bad list to choose from considering we are desperate to add to our midfield mix.

But what about our second and third picks which at this stage will be 29 and 31?

Will the likes of Rory Atkins, Taylor Garner, Matthew Haynes, Jason Pongracic, Shannon Taylor be around at our second & third picks?

For the junior experts out there what are their thoughts on these players?

<snip>

If that list of players was still around for our pick Smoking, I would fully expect Jackson's head to explode through sheer weight of possibilities! :)

I like Atkins and I like Haynes ability to break the lines but his kicking is iffy.

Another one I like is Sean Lynch from WA. Footballer. Not flashy but smart and just racks up the footy. Super kick.

Reminds me of Mitch Duncan. Just gets it done.

Plenty of quality to choose from with pick 9.

Have you seen much of Pongracic? He seems to be talked up around the various forums as someone who we might be eyeing off.

Pongracic is a big brute of an inside mid. Wins plenty of contested ball. Good leader (captain of Dandy) and goes forward and kicks goals.

Sounds like a Martin clone. Any reason why he would slip to pick 29. Sounds more like a first rounder.

Not as quick or skilled as Martin. Probably a Moloney is a favorable comparison without the part of being a knob.

In the paper today that the Bulldogs will make a play for Martin. I just wonder if GWS ignore doing a deal for him unless GC offer the 2nd pick of the draft and just pick him up next year.
