Juniors to watch - 2012

In the paper today that the Bulldogs will make a play for Martin. I just wonder if GWS ignore doing a deal for him unless GC offer the 2nd pick of the draft and just pick him up next year.

I would ignore any Bulldogs offer, Martin looks a very special talent. Nothing but a top 3 pick gets the deal done. If I am the Dogs, I cannot wait till 2014 anyway.

Would be interesting to know where Hogan would go next year if not taken in the mini draft this year, kids that size don't pop up all the time.

Maybe they will but if Melbourne are say more interested in Cloke and maybe Viney then picks 3 and 4 might not be on the table. The Bulldogs might also package picks 5 and 6 and in return they get Martin and maybe a sweetener with a later pick or a Zone player as well.

Good to see people getting interested in Martin.

It looks like one of Kennedy, Wines, Garlett, Stringer, O'Rourke, Vlastuin, Mayes, Macrae & Simpson will be available at our first pick. Not a bad list to choose from considering we are desperate to add to our midfield mix.

OK so who best fits our needs

Ball winner, with class skill composure and quality is there one at least who is this exact type

Yeah, I would. Although we desperately need a mid, I think he is too good to pass. He's the next Goddard or Pav I suspect. That he has broken his leg means he could drop in our lap.

Similar to Selwood dropping to 5th spot when he shoulda gone #1

You know what Evo, I am starting to agree. Played in the VFL for the Bendigo Bombers and had 18 touches and 7 tackles.

Hmmmm.

For sure Craig. Loves that stuff. And he is strong for a youngster. Dustin Martin strong. And knows how to use it in a marking contest. He is almost the reverse of Dusty. More forward who can pinch hit in the midfield. Over time as his fitness builds up he can split time. Wins his own footy. And tackles to hurt people.

If he hadn't of broke the leg last year, he would be a top 3 pick.

Not me, but if he nominates and a team nominates him, it includes him doesn't it?

They can trade 2 youngsters but if the think they are going to finish at the bottom in 2013 then they can get him with the first pick 12 months later. Why give him to another side if you can get him yourself?
They might very well say it's pick two or we just trade 2 other guys.

You know your stuff Gus and I'll stand corrected but I didn't think GWS could choose which kids to trade. It trades picks in the mini-draft and if a player has nominated the club with first pick has first crack at him. GWS must trade those two picks.

A lot of hype but not much substance im afraid. He is a poor kick, has no touch or precission, had a terrible national champs, when the heat came on he went missing. Hopeing like hell we dont fall into the internet hype around this kid, plenty better out there. F

He passes 2 of our 3 criteria but fails in the important one. Chance he could last until the 2nd round unless Norf keep recruiting from BigFooty. :hihi

who you would like with our top 3 picks

i like new talent but i really don't get the time to watch under 18 champs nor do i have foxtel to be honest but i know plenty of people here do. who would you like and why. No video on these guys on the net yet so if you've seen them in action please say what u liked about the player. Iv'e seen some phantom drafts but maybe some of you guys have a different point of view

Jake Stringer / Sam Mayes /Jonothon O’Rourke - which would be the best for us

Stringer sounds like a real combination of Stevie Johnston & Dustin Martin

1st pick - O'Rourke/Kennedy/Vlastuin in that order of preference.

Jonathon O'Rourke - class, very clean in the contest. Very good skills. Athletically very good. Can rack up the ball. Player Comparison: Reece Conca - better skills and athletecism though.

Ben Kennedy - fantastic at pretty much everything except growing. He'd be in the top echelon of the draft for speed, foot skills, ball-winning, goal kicking, tackling. Player comparison: Brent Harvey - same elite speed, skills, goal kicking and arrogance when taking a player on.

Nick Vlastuin - real solid core type footballer. Really good skills, great ball winner, lovely size already, great leadership ability. Really good kid. Player comparison: Lenny Hayes - Ball-winning, leadership and skills.

2nd rounders - any 2 of Stringer, Atkins, Lowrie, Pongracic, Membrey again in that order of preference.

Jake Stringer - firstly I think he will go close to lasting unless by some miracle he gets his athleticism back before combine. Unfairly or not he's an enormous risk if you take him as a first rounder. What I like, his ball-winning ability, his flexibility as a forward and a mid and his attitude (by all accounts a terrific kid.) Player comparison: Matthew Pavlich with average skills and missing the athleticism at this point.

Rory Atkins - a lot to like about this kid. Does everything well but maybe lacks a real special attribute that would boost him to 1st round status. Can win his own ball on the inside, can use his skills off a wing or half-forward and is a big accumulator at TAC level who can kick goals. Player comparison: Rory Sloane - just a good player with not a lot of standout attributes as a TAC player but is just good at everything.

Sam Lowrie - Another kid coming off a broken leg and unfortunately has just broken his collarbone and will miss the rest of the year plus maybe draft combine. Strong wingman with good skills and can win his own ball. Player comparison: Andrew Embley - big wingman with skills and running ability.

Jason Pongracic - ferocious ball-winner with leadership skills. Can go forward and be a genuine goal kicking threat. Not the best kick though. Player comparison: Brent Moloney - but a good bloke.

Tim Membrey - undersized KPF. Another good leader as captain of Gippsland. Big, strong kid who is a very good kick for goal. Interested to see how he tests athletically. Player comparison: Crameri/Darling type.

From that description tigs, Kennedy is our man. What's the difference between him and Garlett?
