I was hopeful Sarge would earn another week's reprieve but consistent with Hughes demotion, Terry's thrown the challenge to Schulz now by dropping him.
Up to Jay to prove TW wrong from here on in because it places his career in a cloud of uncertainty at present. Hopefully he can turn things around pretty quickly.

Disappointing.

This is right Oldie. The Challenge has been laid down to Sarge as it was to Hughes, Tivendale, Krakouer, Gaspar, Jackson, Meyer and co. Its upto Jay to stand up and be counted as others have done or he can do a Gaspar and take his bat and ball and go home. I hope he accepts the challenge that lays ahead of him.

Re: Jay Schulz

I reckon it's fair enough that the Sarge got the arse. He has been robbing teammates of valuable oxygen for a couple of weeks.

I'd have kept him in to provide cover for the debutant.

I don't think that the Sarge was given enough time at CHB. He looked accomplished in the couple of fit games he played there as a 21yo. And then first fit game back at 22, he's thrust into the FF role. Not ready IMO.

Maybe dropping him will do the trick but I'd have liked to see him spend a year at CHB.

Typical goggle sight. Honestly this type of foresight has got the RFC where it is today. He is not a CHB - he is a bloody forward where a forward line revolves around more than one person. But it just is banging ones head up against a wall regarding to our forward line set up in the last 15 years.

Honestly, although i hate to say it, I hope they let sarge go next year and let you all see what the guy can do with a more than one forward like we have in the last upteen years.

Re: Jay Schulz

Tuby, I googled "goggle-sight" and this is what I got- 8)

I reckon it's orthodox to play natural forwards in defence in their formative years. Not so much champion forwards- and Jay aint one of them- but natural forwards.

In the few games he played at CHB, Jay could get a kick. His opponent couldn't.

Maybe if you take those dicky sunnies off you might realise what he has to offer this team. But honestly, to tell you the truth Dyer'ere, I'm over saying the same thing for the last 2 and a half years. Lets just cut him loose mate, he is not a CHB bootlace. I'd rather see him play in his rightful position with another team then be continually jerked around by the RFC like he has.

Oh, and lets just keep Richo up forward for the next ten years.....its done a mighty treat in the last 15 years mate... ::) ::)

The writing is on the wall for Shultz.Only something short of a miracle will save Shultz from being Traded at the end of the year.

Yep Captain, I have to agree with that unfortunately. I would of liked him just to have a few games and given a decent go without the big guy down there just to see how he coped.

Gee, on a bit of a side note though, i find it remarkable that Richo could even be in line for a game with that injury he got......

Re: Jay Schulz

It just seems that after that West Coast game where he kicked 4 straight behinds from 4 easy set shots he has not been the same player. Seems to be really lacking confidence and was definitely the right decision to drop him. I think Terry is handling the whole list quite cleverly especially the young guys. Unlike my namesake who destroyed players confidence and abilities by continually playing them even when they were down on form and confidence instead of dropping them to the twos so they can regain both!!! Prime examples were Rodan and Fiora. Played them in the seniors for the sake of playing them and totally destroyed their self belief. I remember Fiora once saying that he couldn't understand why he kept getting a senior game every week even though he was struggling!!! That says it all. Look at blokes like Edwards and Polo. Both got dropped and both have come back having a huge impact!!

On a side note, how people can blame Richo for Sarge's form is laughable. If anything, it should make Schulz a better player as he would continually get the second or third best defender. No excuses there. How come N.Brown was never affected by playing alongside Richo?? It actually aided him. I think the times of blaming Richo for every other forwards lame performances is long gone.

Or a contract. He is signed until the end of '08.
Something short of a miracle?..a little overeactive there captain given our other key forward is on the verge of retirement.

Let's see how he responds to his demotion before writing him off just yet.

Will depend on the midfield obviously but I think he's a good chance to kick a dozen this week.

Fancy a gentlemans' wager on it being closer to 6 than 12?

Count me in. I'll say closer to 18. One hundred guineas? (No play- no bet)

Inside mail?

ToO it all comes back to what Terry said before becoming our coach in regards to Jay.If Terry had any confidence in Jay the next 2 weeks would have been an ideal time to keep Jay in the side with Richo,s absence hence the miracle comment.
Unless Jay can pull something out of his hat over the next 4-6 weeks he will be put on the trade table.

No doubt the ball is in Jay's court, he needs to kick goals, however...
A lot will also depend on Richo's fitness, Kingsley's success and Hughes's progress.
I don't think you trade 22 yr old KP forwards at the drop of a hat.

Hansen from the WC had his break out year at 23 and Polak(23) has only come on this year as well.
The talls often take longer.

The very worst thing that could happen is if we let go of Schulz prematurely to say the Bullies(who have a great midfield) and he goes on to be a raging success. If that were to happen well..

Re: Jay Schulz

No, Bill. But TW does seem to have instituted a firm policy- if you can't get a kick, you're out. Schulz can't get a kick.

Re: Jay Schulz

Cant be bothered reading the rest of this thread, but im wondering, what the hell? Schulz wasnt too bad in the early rounds, has he lost the plot or something?

Probably got a niggle, W_M but he's not knocking himself out. Kicking has been off since round one.

Agree,he will get another opportunity to prove his worth though.

Re: Jay Schulz

Can't believe the crap people carry on with on this site sometimes, the Tigers are sitting 0-8 with the worst midfield in the AFL by a country mile and everybody is wondering why some of the young forwards can't get a kick.

Schulz has had plenty of opportunities to get a kick. The ball does get down to the forwardline.

Yeah but the quality is generally crap max bygraves.

Johnson can't hit the side of a barn. Tuck isn't much better and Foley's strength ain't his kicking accuracy.
Our forwards hardly get champagne service.

Still I do worry about Jay's ability to kick goals from ground level. That is the ability to create a goal out of nothing.
It has always been a weakness in his game and continues to plague him..
