Still I do worry about Jay's ability to kick goals from ground level. That is the ability to create a goal out of nothing.
It has always been a weakness in his game and continues to plague him..

That's the nub of it. Much related to work rate too.

TW is not a big fan of *smile* and does not think he is up to afl standard

Out of interest, how do you know this, and if the case why has he been playing him?

Same way as a lot of the "scoops" that have been posted in the past eight weeks - he made it up.

I'm glad PRE s popular and growing, but part of me yearns for the days when we were a bit smaller... ;)

just garbage, tango has pulled the rabit out of the hat! TW apparently said around 4 years ago the *smile* was not up to AFL standard. I sure thinks he's a chance, otherwise why play him.

exactly and he has not changed his mind, why else would you drop a KPP (fwd) when you lose one with injury.....
*smile* is just not switched on, he has talent and balls but lacks intensity, hunger and workrate
TW made his comments well before coaching us, when he could say whats on his mind, cant say it now?

Re: Jay Schulz

On his overall form throught the years he's been with us, can anyone really say that they see him being our spearhead if we're to be a premiership contender ? He just hasn't performed at a consistenly high enough level to build a forward line around.

Hansen from the WC had his break out year at 23 and Polak(23) has only come on this year as well.
The talls often take longer.

Hansen kicked ass in his 2nd year. Consistently averaged 15 possessions a game and kicked bags of goals. Polak a fairer example, but he's only a few months older than Schulz and had a real attitude issue and would probably still be on the outer if he hadnt have left Fremantle. Talls do often take longer, question is how much longer should one wait? He's now 22, do we wait for another year, another 2 years, or do we start giving others opportunity to show their wares and make players compete for their positions.

I think Schulz will get another chance before the year's out. He has some talent at VFA level and should perform well there.

Begs the question, why keep him on the list for so long if that was Terry's belief? What you say to make newspaper sales and what you believe as a coach are two different things. I just can't believe you would keep someone for so long if you don't believe they are up to standard.

Short of it is Schulz is out. Let's see how the replacements shape up, in particular Reiwoldt.

Tuby, I googled "goggle-sight" and this is what I got- 8)

I reckon it's orthodox to play natural forwards in defence in their formative years. Not so much champion forwards- and Jay aint one of them- but natural forwards.

In the few games he played at CHB, Jay could get a kick. His opponent couldn't.

Maybe if you take those dicky sunnies off you might realise what he has to offer this team. But honestly, to tell you the truth Dyer'ere, I'm over saying the same thing for the last 2 and a half years. Lets just cut him loose mate, he is not a CHB bootlace. I'd rather see him play in his rightful position with another team then be continually jerked around by the RFC like he has.

Oh, and lets just keep Richo up forward for the next ten years.....its done a mighty treat in the last 15 years mate... ::) ::)

Leysy reckons Jacks got this one right TT. Just cos you might think he aint a CHB's A-hole dont mean your right........

Schulz NEEDS to play in defence, he gets lazy, & you can get away with it in attack with out being made look stupid.
Do it in defence & the heats fair'n'square on you. He kicks well, has a good leap & pace is OK.

It will help his reading of the play, his work ethic, make him play below his knees & learn that 2nd efforts are crucial.
Thats gotta be a good learning curve.

The seasons shot, we gotta use it to develop & round out our players.

I suppose we all have our own thoughts on the Sarge topic Leysy and I can see where both you and Jack are coming from. But I'm still a firm believer that playing Richo up the ground, having Cleave, Sarge and young Jack down in the forward line is a much better option for the RFC going forward. Obviously I might be in the minority in that mindset but hey we're all great coaches on this side of the fence mate ;)

Give Schulz one more year given his age.

Last year next year, to prove his worth. 30 goals plus, and good work around the ball.

By the sounds of the drums down at Punt Road Ghost he is not part of the future down there.

Re: Jay Schulz

If he's not part of their plans they should still be playing him as much as possible to try and build his trade value.

I dont think that he/we will have trouble finding a club that is interested Disco.

Re: Jay Schulz

Me either tuby. In a good team he could kick 70+ goals a year no worries.

That is what bloody frustrates me Disco to no end. Just so frustrating that we cant get the forward setup right.

Re: Jay Schulz

I think the delivery is as much a problem as the setup tuby. Still a few to get rid of and a few to pick up before we can get it all right IMO tuby.

He should be able to do that but on present form he wouldn't.Too many excuses have been found for Schulz.

And exactly how does he do that on present when for the majority of his career the ball coming forward gets the majority of its time kicked into one other forwards immediate zone MB?

Re: Jay Schulz

IMO his 2 most valuable skills are finding space for the short little 15 metre pass and then converting accurately. Good skills to have in the age of flooding.

Schulz has had plenty of opportunities but hasn't done enough.I have no doubt has has the ability but there have been too many excuses for him.Time for him to knuckle down & show what he is capable of.

Re: Jay Schulz

Lets not forget the amount of time jay has spent fighting injury. I think his contract should be honoured, and i'd like to see him continuing to improve this year (coburg or senior level he needs to work), and hopefully get a full pre-season in him so we can see what he is capable of
