Don't the AFL have a medical scheme for "old" players who suffer from injuries incurred.

I'm not sure they do. And that is an indictment on the AFL and on the AFLPA.

If they do have such a scheme it is clearly inadequate.

It's some sort of bulk billed scheme involving current or past AFL medicos reportedly funded for up to about $2m per year by the AFL. Past players pay a one off $50 payment to qualify. It's been going since before 2010 I think.
 
Same here, that was sickening.
Was this the tackle at Docklands where he drove him head first into the turf with all his weight on his back? Injured his shoulder as well? He’d get a month minimum for that these days.

Yes it was, it was as deliberate as you can get.
