Re: Jay Schulz

reading this thread reminds me of a time long ago ... in 1980 (if my memory is correct) rchmond had the leading goal kickers in the 19 's ,the maggoos and the 1's can anyone name them ?

Jackson, Taylor & Roach...?
award the chocies :clap well done. now at the end of 1983 who was left playing 4 the mighty tiges ??

Re: Jay Schulz

He's a good enough mark on the lead and a nice kick for goal too, but its when the balls on the deck in general play that Sarge loses the plot.
He needs to ramp up some vigour and use his body ( ala David Neitz) to hurt the opposition and give the crumbers some physical presence to work around at the clinches.
He needs to work harder and present more often during play.
He's anonymous during general play currently and needs to lift his workrate to become a better player IMO.

Re: Jay Schulz

M Roach leading goalkicker, 112 goals.
M Jackson kicks 131 goals in Reserves
P Lane leading Under 19's goalkicker with 107 goals.

A fellow PREnder/moderator, I believe...
excuse my ignorance but i dont understand ? anway the point i was getting to (slowly iknow) is that we had a good spread of talent that we let go to other clubs and relied one 1 option .in the case of shulz i think some posters are talking about tradeing sarge because of the depth the club is amassing in the fwd line where as i think sarge has a role to play for years to come.imho :hihi

Me too...! (Whatever happened to P. Lane...?)

Re: Jay Schulz

I dont know what happened to Lane(was it Peter?) but I remember when it happened in 1980. Jacko was a freak goalkicker(as well as an idiot of a bloke).

PS I edited my first post as I'm not sure we are able to quote from the RFC site.

Re: Jay Schulz

Jay has kicked 11:11 from 8 games this year.

At the same age Kingsley 22:21 goals from 16

IMHO a KK career is about the very best we can hope for out of Jay.

Having said that given what he has achieved this year, and what Hughes and Reiwoldt have showed, there is absolutely no reason to play Kent as long as any two of Richo and the three kids are fit.

Re: Jay Schulz

Depends which season you take in comparison. Schulz has his birthday 5 months earlier in the year than Kingsley, so you could easily compare to Kingsley's 2000 (4 games, 1 goal). Either way we'd all be happy with the Kingsley that kicked 57 goals as a 23 year old I'd reckon.

Hence it's one season too soon to talk about trading him.
If he's struggling next year then he can go.

Re: Jay Schulz

Yes we would be happy if Jay kicked 57 next year. But would you be happy if he finished his career with more than 40 goals only three times?

I'd definitely take it.
Playing as the number two or three forward you would but not at number one.

Titus, Richardson, *smile* Harris, Bartlett, Roach, Cloke, Hogg, Dyer, Doug Strang, Ray Poulter are the only players who've done it at Richmond in 100 years. It would put Sarge in some illustrious company.

Edit: throw in Royce Hart as well.

I don't agree with playing him as a back man at all.

He's the consumate forward.

Either play him forward at Richmond ,or Coburg.

If we want to train up another backman.Jack's your man.

I agree to the extent that Sarge's long term future will most likely be as a forward. He currently has too many defichiencies to make a consistent AFL player.

However, a solid stint (10-20) games as a backman could really develop his game.

As mentioned it will help his reading of the play, work ethic, make him play below his knees & learn that 2nd efforts are crucial.
Its gotta be a good learning curve & hopefully would be the makings of him.
