I was surprised when he came back, thought he was out the door, but after a rusty start he looks like he belongs at this level.

Get Dave back, move Morris on and bring McD in for Newie and we have the makings of a very effective back 6.

agreed BV, really looking forward to that.

He looks a little over weight but may need it as a defender . I agree think he belongs like him

always loved this guy. will be a cool intercept type well into the future. a burlier version of mark chaffey.

The new Batchelor does nothing half hearted. When he goes, he goes. Looks a lot more composed at this level.

But, I must say, looks a little, er, um, well, chubby. No muscle definition at all.

Massive preseason required. But I do think he is a keeper & a good depth player.

So true. Needs to get fitter as surely he is not in A1 condition.

Looked to be at the cross roads. It speaks well of both him and the club that he has come back looking better and more commited. I like the extra weight he now looks quite powerful. With some tone and fitness would love to see him pound Petrie next year. Be the extra man into a contest with that arseclown that many here wanted to chase Cloke...etc.

The problem is he's too slow for the small forwards & not tall enough for the tall forwards. Good intercept mark & generally ok left foot. He's also been trying to attack more since he's come back into the AFL team but it doesn't look like it comes naturally.

A defender from a by-gone era to some extent. Does he have a future past this year - only if he becomes elite fit & adds either some speed or all day endurance.

Good ordinary player for mine.

I have to admit he doesn't look in that good a shape but just checked and he is playing 80 - 85% of game time on his games this season and seems to run out a game OK and looks strong enough in contests. I guess he wouldn't get a call up if the coaches didn't think he was fit. A bit of muscle definition wouldn't go astray though.

If he's travelling like this at the same point next season then he's done well but he has to maintain the hunger and fitness and not drop away like he has done previously.

Has the tools to be a regular but you have to work your ass of Jake and just don't expect it to happen.

Good to see him back. Also noticed he is very vocal to his teammates. He lets you know if you stuff up. No problems with that

Still not sold completely on him. Won't be surprised to see him dropped again before seasons out.

Must say I really didn't think that Batchelor and Grimes would go well together in the same team.

But with Astbury out, I actually don't mind our more mobile defence missing one of our KPD's.

Real pressure on Chaplin when Astbury is ready to play again.

Probably Dea.

Dea should never been dropped anyway but i would keep them both. Both would be valuable members down back and release Newy to captain the 2's. We need to move forward.

I'm of the same view.
He may have gone ahead of Dea in the pecking order but still not convinced he'll be a Tiger next season.
Has some strengths but a few too many weaknesses for my liking.
Did like one particular piece of play against Port though. Was much more like the Batch of old in that particular passage.
Think he made a strong tackle and then linked up for a couple of handball receives. Was good stuff.

He laid a pretty hard shepherd at once stage as well. Put the PA guy right on his arse, and created space for teammate.

Not enough love for Batch. I thought he was very good last night. Played like a man possessed. Laid some crucial and brutal tackles. He makes the opposition feel pain.
