Seems like a pretty level headed kid, reckon he'll be a good pick up

It has me a bit worried, with good solid citizens like Batchelor and Conca the Tigers are looking quiet cultured and well spoken. Looking at the Collingwood team that won the premiership, I'm not sure this is the recipe for success.

Lucky we have a bit of balance with Dusty, King, Taylor and Mc Donald. We need a few more neck tatts and rats tails if we are going to mix it with the Collingwoods of the world.

the commentators didn't know the players a lot of the time, so i had no hope.
Francis jackson should have called the game.

That would be awesome.

I know Man Utd have their own callings of games.

Jacko is probably the smartest guy on the team and was also the most suspended in 2010 . I don't care how well spoken they are - only that they can play. Brett Kirk is a buddhist vegetarian and he's also a premiership captain

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I'm just wondering if those founts of junior footy knowledge, who so furiously lambasted Jackson for selecting Batchelor (and Conca & MacDonald, for that matter), will ever pop their heads into this thread again...

I would wait until they actually do something on the field before claiming any sort of recruiting masterstrokes ;D , but i know what you mean .

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

With Batchelor one thing ive noted and its the number one thing i look at with youngsters.

Kid has shown some composure which is everything in footy.

No matter how good ones skills if they dont have poise or awareness they will not be able to execute skills to the level.

Lack of composure and awareness has been a common thread with many Tiger players of recent and one thing that puts me off side with players, see the likes of White, McGuane ect.

Jake looks to have some, as does Rhyce, Cotch has it in spades, Dustin and Jack have it Lids has it and thats what makes good players.

Hopefully the kid comes on over the next coupla years as could well become will be a handy acquisition.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Very salient post there Craig. 100% true.

Some players can "buy" time with the ball & some cant. It's a natural ability that is very rarely taught. Refer: Tambling.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Doesnt have it. Not at all Big Cat.

Its why he looks so good at training as opposed to games.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Even our Irishman seemed to show a bit of time with the ball considering his limited time in our game. Dea on the other hand didn't.

Would also add that Conca seems to have that poise and awareness as well, didn't rush any of the few possessions he got.

I think that's part natural ablity and part o'reily has has longer in a 360 degree sport, remember dea's main sport was basketball

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Oh Rhyce as in Reece! Stealthed it in there on me

Bit harsh on BB there Col, vision and composure key elements of BB. The best players are those that bring others into the game ie great passers and you can't be that unless you have vision/awareness.

Wasn't trying to run down bastketball at all, I'm just saying galic football in sOme ways is closer to football than basketball.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Pendlebury was a big basketballer as a junior. Has exceptional vision and awareness.

I'd have thought Gaelic football was a lot closer to football than basketball.

He was also a far higher credentialed junior than dea so came onto the afl at a higher level.

So that Batchelor, looking like a good pickup for the Tige's... ;)
