Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Get out of here, no way that boy is 18. I know forming views of kids off highlight packages is a trap but there couldn't be many first year players who could present that well. And a just a hint of self belief, that I belong here about him as well. Looks like he can play too. Will get games in 2011.

I wanted a Heppell type to end up at Richmond and I think we got the type I thought we needed.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I sat next to him at Club 80 after the draft and was really impressed. He was clearly the best speaker of the new players on stage, and seemed very determined when talking to him one-on-one.

He reminded me of Newie, partly through his steely demeanour and partly because of the bumfluff on his face. He seems to have the mental aptitude to make it, and his NAB debut indicates there may be enough footballing ability as well.

I reckon a good fantasy footy player too

Sums it up superbly Scooper. Was as excited as watching Martin first up - the poise was remarkable, and yes, what I was expecting of a Heppell.

Is it fair to say that there is more hype and excitement with Batchelor than there is with Conca?

Both will be top players for us. It appears the club is also concentrating on players with the mental strength to make it. Conca and Batchelor both look like they know where they're headed, and how to get there.

I think people are forgetting that Batchelor was never penciled in with pick 30, in fact FJ is on record saying that had any one of Lycett or Darling fallen our way we would of taken either one of them before Batchelor.

No doubt the club did there homework on this one, and instead of just having 1 plan set for draft night they went in with a multiple plans.

We could of got Lycett if we used the Tambling pick.

Not for me. Conca looks a beauty. Jake looks a prospect as well.

Only problem with that is you have to nominate before the ND if your going to use the Compo pick.Besides the Compo pick will be much more of value for Money after next years Draft.

after watching last saturdays game a few times now (with the volume down so i dont have to put up with the commentators stroking themselves everytime a pies player touched it) batchelor did all the basics very well, very clean with his hands and by foot, looks like he will definately get games this year, and early in my opinion, i reckon he will be even better with deledio and newman next to him in the backline. However, what few things conca did, he looked very balanced and silky smooth, will be a fantastic addition to our midfied, with the gold plated wrecking ball in martin, cotchin and foley, it will be elite and very hard to stop. cotchin, martin, foley, conca = 70 inside 50's.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Batchelor was impressive, contested the ball in the air and read the play well. Conca is a talent on another level - moves smootly, tackled hard and kicked cleanly. When he builds up his fitness he will be very damaging playing as an inside/out midfielder.

Spot on assessment Ty.

I reckon we have broken the curse of pick 6 here.
