Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Biggest disappointment of the last 12 months.
Really was excited about this player once but now find him very average.
Doesn't show enough support to others around him and seems to go with the motions..
I do not wont to see him this month in the side.. Needs to work harder an if not ship out..
Cannot believe there is a spot in the back half and nobody wants it, Batch, Griff, Ash and Dea.

B2

At least one person agrees with me about FJ

Well and truly agree..

This is one of the biggest problems at the club in my opinion..

Batchelor appears to be classic FJ.. A reach pick who doesn't really have any standout AFL qualities..

Have a look at the 2010 draft. It was a weak draft. Luke Parker and Jeremy Howe are 2 good players that I would love at our club. But their is not much else behind Batchelor. I think FJ's record stacks up. But I would flick him if Wells wanted to come on board.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He's first year was good. Gone down hill from there. :(

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He stunk on Saturday. Was probably our worst player on the ground (and we had Vickery!). I get the feeling that his confidence is at an all-time low - seems to second guess himself all the time and appears too nervous to even mark the ball, which is actually a strength. This was in sharp focus when he elected to punch when on his own, failed to kill the contest and Black walked around him to kick an early goal. Writing was on the wall and the die was cast for the day.

Doesn't deserve a spot this week. But all hope isn't lost ... yet.

I'm the same B2. He dropped a little last year, but you could have attributed that to 2nd year blues. Has gone backwards at a rate of knots. He also seems to be a confidence player and it doesn't take much to shake it. Once that happens he just gets worse from then on. I'd rather see him work on things at Coburg (hey, it worked for Tuck a couple of years ago) and let Dea take his spot until Grimes is fit and ready. Even though Dea is inexperienced he cracks in a whole lot harder than Batch does at present and I think there's more upside to him long term.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Essentially Batch is a good player we saw it early in his career and we have seen it a couple of times this year too. The problem is in the absence of Grimes and another big backman he is assigned jobs he is not built for and his confidence has suffered.

A classic example of how low his confidence was that early on in his career and earlier this year he would back into a pack and mark the ball. In stark contrast we all saw what he did with the ineffective punch the other day :( Corey and Enright would struggle on some of the big guys he gets some weeks and I get the feeling the club has him tagged for that in between size backman.

I like Batch when he is in form - Saturday he was not in form.

Yep

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Sadly out of form.

He is better than what he is currently showing.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Working against Jake is that he looks like he is 45 years old. He is in fact just 21 with many years of football and hopefully improvement left in him. What annoys me is that he seems, slow, lethargic and casual in his disposal. I would be happy to keep him on the list for at least 2014 to see improvement in these areas. Could still be a cracker IMO.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Yep I'm a fan of the bachelor but he is out of sorts now. Plenty of time and will be a good contributor. IMO

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Stands too far from his opponent, appears way too casual and just follows his opponent to the mark. He reminds me of Jason Cloke, ok as an intercept mark, just don't give him an opponent :(

thought the same. If you watched him for the first time you'd think he was a veteran on his last legs. doesn't have the zip of a 21 year old.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

FWIW I think Batch has been dropped so he can work on the consistency of his effort. That first attempted spoil that allowed Tarrant to goal was half-arsed. He had a bit too much of that last week.

I still think he's a better player than he's showing. Quite a spell in the Magoos unless he goes apeshit.

FWIW I think was thrown under the bus to some extent in being played in the #3 role. I'd like to see him bounce back.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Experts said we took him way too high in teh draft if I recall, I thought he looked like a player in control under pressure in his first season, hard to say whee Batch will figure in teh future, he is in and out a lot lately.
Don't know that Petterd is any better though.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I believe he can play and wouldn't be writing him off too soon. Imo his problem started when we tried to make him a 3rd tall defender instead of a tallish flanker , he is too big and has lost his mobility.

To me he has to get leaner and do a lot of running and we will see the early version of Batch again.

I hope

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He definitely needs to work on his mobility as he is not a 3rd tall. When Grimes comes back he will play the 3rd tall role. Therefore he's competing with the likes of Petterd, Dea for a spot and atm simply is too slow in pace and responsiveness. When houli comes back as well you would have to wonder if we see batch again this year unless the injury gods strike against us badly.
