Jake Batchelor

See your point phantom and spook but he simply won't get senior games as aback flanker, not while grimes is fit anyway. He plays tall and that's where his main strengths lie.

If we want to use him I reckon we need to recast his role.

Hes more use to us as a utility in 2014.

Creative thinking Carter, don't mind the idea

But tbh I'd rather we keep him on the HBF and move Petterd up forward

I still rate Batch very highly

I can't remember him playing up forward at the Stingers.
The 2011 Prospectus confirmed this by not bothering to list his goals kicked in his 2009 & 2010 TAC years.

Not much love for the batchelor party these days it seems.

Talk of trading him is understandable but I'd hate to see him go. Pick 35 from memory -- I'm sick of these picks being a bust for us.

For all his flaws, batch remains a penetrating kick, cool headed handpass and when he's on you feel he can be a solid Chaffey type. That's a major compliment.

FJ is great at picking first rounders but his record below that is very ordinary. Imagine if we had Parker instead of Batch... Apparently they played together and Parker was the one who ripped it up at that level. Griffiths is another who looks to be a bust. Could have had Fyfe amongst others. Then there's the Sloan situation. When Rendell became available who does he go to... Yes that's right. The wobbles always seem to be a step ahead of us IMO. The only thing I don't envy about them is their figjam of a coach.

Get it together Richmond. Free agency will only take us so far.

Massive fumbler. Will cost us games.
Often let's himself down with skill execution errors that simply cannot afford to be made at this level.
Are they curable? Dunno.
But unless they can be cured - Batch is always going be a potential liability.

Without exaggeration he actually played one of the most insipid games I've ever seen at this level against Norf this year. Was just atrocious.

I had a good feeling about him up until RD2 this year. Against Carlton in RD1 he was fantastic. Then Petterd came in and basically took his role from him. Went downhill quickl after that.

Not really sure what happened to Batch. He was good enough early to make me still believe he can play.

My feeling is that he got too big, he is a flanker and they tried to make him a pseudo KPP and he lost his mobility, got beaten on the field and then lost his confidence. There would be clubs who would trade for him and it may be better for Batch if he went as well. If he is a 3rd tall Grimes is well ahead, if he is a hbf then he is behind the incumbents and Dea as well.

Pity, because he has ability imo

Well said, ST.
In Batchelor's early games I thought the Tigers had unearthed themselves a pretty useful player, but something has gone astray this year for sure.
I am sure Batch will be on the trade table, but if the Club doesn't get a suitable deal done then I would be more than happy to hang onto him, because I believe he could still offer the Tigers something if they can find his best role.

I thought they tried to make a winger out of him second year in. He got lost in the traffic and hasn't found his way home yet.

He's a flanker. Either end? Who knows. The best read of the ball drop at the club - but not a lot else. For mine - he's understudy to Grimes.

Not sure if he has much currency as trade bait though.

True unfortunately. Has had 2 poor seasons after a fine debut year.
Both Grimes and Petterd are better players.
I have been off him for some time but he could offer something to another club short on a third tall.
I expect he will be at another club next year.

True BUT now that we are better team we can now afford to have guys play longer term at VFL and become good depth players.

Petterd would need to learn to kick before I said he was a better player absolutely atrocious when playing up forward

Agreed NQ. Petterd is busier but Batch has it over him in the kicking stakes.

Disagree. Might look prettier off the boot but Batchelor has been turning it over with the best of them in his recent appearances.

Batch is just laconic, ToO. ;D

But yes, I could forgive Batch's turnovers in his second year, but not this year. Hopefully another preseason and with his knee right he'll show his A game.
