Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

him wearing number 11 is a insult ive been saying for ages he is no good as 3rd tall to slow and always loose when marking yet i got shot down when i said this
we have all these talls wasting away at coburg damn we could of used some today

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Has been extremely disappointing since his promising first season.

Yet another in a line of questionable 2nd round picks by FJ.

Edwards; some good attributes but absolutely butchers it by foot
Rance; old ice skates up to his old tricks; imagine him in the heat of a final
Post; say no more
Griffiths; still hopeful but not looking good; Carlisle would have been handy
2011 & 2012 too early to tell

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Calamity Jake in recent times.
Have not been convinced before now and today only confirmed the most negative impressions.
We have to use other options now.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Had an absolute shocker today and doesn't have much credit in the bank. surely will be dropped next week.

Silly post as incorrect in so many ways.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

question...why not mark the ball when intercepting a pass?....cost us a goal in the 1st q!.....that set the tone for the rest of his game  looks lazy and is playing scared and has no urgency about him and definately no courage :-[

I for the life of me cannot understand how Arnot who shows no fear is dropped and this buffoon still remains in the side?

Oh i think he was the cause of 3-4 goals today from undicsipline play and turnovers!

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Lazy, slow, weak, dumb, clumsy

These are the words that come to mind.

Has to go. We overlooked Luke Parker for this dud.

I like Arnot too, but how do you reckon Arnott would go against Drew Petrie, Robbie Tarrant or Aaron Black?

Batchelor is being played out of position and being asked to do jobs that he's not physically equipped to do. He's a half back flanker who is a bit one paced but is usually pretty good overhead and a reasonable kick. I was hoping he might mature into a defensive midfielder but I'm not overly optimistic about him anywhere at the moment. Presently he looks devoid of all confidence, couldn't even get a fist on the ball in a few instances. He's double fisting balls that he should be marking. His kicking and decision making is terrible. The holding the ball decision against him was warranted, he made no attempt and then had the stupidity to mouth off. Completely undisciplined. He wasn't always this bad but he's going backwards right now.

The other options for his spot (ie third tall) yesterday were Matt Dea (who came in for Houli anyway but not tall enough), Ricky Pettard (too small), Griffiths (no form), or Elton (still raw). Really highlights the importance of Grimes.

We dont match up well against teams with 3 tall forwards. I feared West Coast with their big tall forwards would smash us like North did yesterday. The difference with West Coast was that we smashed them in the midfield even with Natanui dominating. North beat us in the midfield and, on the occasions we did win it, we gave it back to them by bombing it into our forward line where Hansen, playing loose or double teaming Riewoldt, mopped it up. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I'm not sure if the smaller ground at Etihad contributed but I reckon we're a team that likes space. We don't like 4 quarters of tight smashing in footy which is exactly what we'll get against Freo and Sydney.

So who replaces Batchelor against Gold Coast? How many tall forwards do Gold Coast have? Sam Day injured his groin yesterday and Dixon is injured. As such the talls probably wont be an issue and it'll be Houli in for Batchelor and we'll revisit the issue when we next play a team who presents us with 3 big talls in good marking conditions (ie under the roof at Etihad or a fine day). How many are the Swans playing with Tippett now in the side? The Swans game (small ground, no space, tight contested footy) has all the hallmarks of yesterday, hopefully we learnt some lessons.....

Thanks Barnzy, I forgot to mention Astbury. In my mind he lacks a yard of pace to be a defender and seems to have lost some agility with the leg injuries, but I can see why (when not injured) they're trying to fast track him....aside from Grimes, he's a better option than the others for third tall

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Games like yesterday are the problem with Batchelor. He can play decent football when conditions and opposition suit him, but when he has a shocker he really has a bad one.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His struggles are not a new thing. Thought he was our weakest link against the Saints the previous week also. It's been apparent for some time that he has deficiencies to his game right now and he may not be on our list next year.

Yep agree with with you said....though he is not the only one in the AFL who is playing "out of position" and being asked to do jobs that hes not equipped to do? everyone is either too skinny or not tall enough to play on a tippett/Cloke or mobile enough to play on Franklin or Roughead or who ever........the last bloke who wore #11 Joel Bowden constantly had to punch above his weight on big CHF's in the league.

Heck! even our own Jack Reiwoldt is punching above his weight playing the main " Key Forwards " role when everyone says he should be a 2nd or 3rd tall!..........seeems to be doing his job.

What sh!ts me about Batch is that he acts like "he's too cool for school"......show some desperation and courage FFS!

ive been saying all year and last year and got flamed for it

and to answer the question of who replaces him any tall ffs you can put rance on the 3rd tall if we had a griffiths or astbury yesterday you could of even sent tv down there even jack ticks me off no options at all for talls yesterday yet even if we did dimma wouldn't make any changes houli out and he left lids get tagged and burnt all day when he could of sent him down back

Lids allowed himself to get tagged out by a snot nosed beginner, got moved forward n got a couple of posters, Jaaack started on the wing a few times to try n get him into the game.
Houli out injured n Ellis crunched out by the fritter killed some of our running options, not much a coach can do about either.
Yep Batch was ordinary along with a great big heap of team mates.

I would add that Jake lets himself down way too often with inconsistent endeavour and intensity.

If we can get Assburgers on the park it's a logical change. Let's hope Grimey can get right this season.
