Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Has been *smile* for most of the year. Has not built on his fantastic first year.

I think he's become complacent and lazy.

Wake the *smile* up Jake or you will find yourself out the door very quickly.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Has been ordinary but will be better with Grimes back in the team.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

he can mark, he can kick but too slow and misses far too many spoils when he could have marked or rushed it through for a behind

Let's on rely on a bloke that gets injured sneezing.
Forget about grimes, can't afford to keep blokes that play2 games and spent 10 on the sidelines.
By the way he form was worse then bachelors

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Sadly, Jake ain't that good.
Is now a depth player.
And ultimately needs to be replaced.

By ultimately i meant not next week, by at years end by a better drafted player.
As in, dud delist.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He was shocking yesterday, but too early to right him off completely.

He definitely plays a lazy style which was on full show with some of his one handed efforts. Needs to go back to Coburg and earn his way back with hard work!

Well we'd wanna be using our first rounder on this 'better drafted player' because FJ's record on draft picks outside the first round is nothing short of shambolic..

Question marks still on all of them except for last years batch because they are all babies..

And we won't go into the ones that are delisted already because that is just depressing....

Batchelor is being played out of position and being asked to do jobs that he's not physically equipped to do. He's a half back flanker who is a bit one paced but is usually pretty good overhead and a reasonable kick.

Ok so he's a half back flanker as opposed to a third tall defender. Who's spot does he take on that basis?
I disagree FWIW. He's a nowhere man.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Agree that Batchelor is in the margins at the moment and that is reflected in his "in and out" selections for the firsts. Agree also that he has unfortunately is yet to demonstrate that he should be anything else other than a depth player - or someone who demonstrates that we have insufficient depth.

I do have a theory from reading posts on this site for a number of years that those players who don't show their emotions much (and Batchelor's Ned Kelly tribute beard also helps hide this) get flamed by supporters for being lazy, not caring etc. Suspect the reality is very different.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Hindsight is always amusing, earlier in this thread Jake was the next Kellaway, Leon Cameron, Michael Mansfield, Merv Keane! He was tough, composed, got good skills, his highlight reel showed him to be a class act.....

Could be right.

What is the one attribute Batc hhas that is significantly above average? Guys under KPP size need to have something special to play HBF, Houli has run and beautiful disposal, Morris is fast and very intense, Newman is an elite kick, good overhead and reads the play well, even Dea is a pretty good athlete…

Batch is an ok kick, decent mark and football brain, a bit slow and has respectable recovery… is it enough?

I've watched him closely and seen Jake demonstrate poor skills at times such as handballs missing a target in ways that simply should not happen at AFL level. And too often he fumbles and shows a lack of coordination and agility at ground level.
His OK kicking is a mix of superb long thumping 60m kicks to a target - but then those occasional howlers that simply cannot be excused.
I don't doubt his bravery but have come to the conclusion that he will not cut in in the long term.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I think if Batchelor is selected to play this week vs Gold Coast, I'd see that as a bigger indictment on the coaching panel than the actual player himself. Surely they would have seen what we saw with his turnovers costing the team goals.
Moving forward, he's a young kid, granted, but just because you're young doesnt mean that you are any good or show real potential. Trading him for a realistic 3rd/4th round pick or as part of a trade may be the best we get for Jake.

What I can't understand with Batchelor is what exactly did FJ see in him in the first place to warrant drafting him??

This is just another prime example of FJ butchering draft picks past the first round.. He's made a very nasty habit of this in my opinion..

At least one person agrees with me about FJ
