Perhaps.
Batch looked like a gun in his first season and I was a huge fan of his promising debut. However I've been a lot less impressed since he copped a few injuries.
Just doesn't seem as quick or as fluent as he did in his opening season where everything just seemed to flow and now flaws have been exposed in his game.
You're right in that it's still early days though. I haven't written him off by a long shot as he has shown he can play. Just not sure where he fits atm.

I agree in regards to Jake not looking quite as fluent and quick but I thought he played well on Sunday. Showed some very good signs again and hopefully he can stay in the side & get settled and play good footy.

He did some OK things but basically got towelled up by every bloke he played on Dawes early and then Howe late all got easy goals (3) with lead and marks totally unimpeded by Batch.

Agree Lamby. Struggled on all his opponents.

Two words....lazy footballer.

He was good in the first half when everybody around him was crap.
You stop someone twice your size.

Chappy and Rance were good most of the night...they were around him?.... everyones opponenet was twice the size of ours though Batchelor looks like he cannot be bothered.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

i had high hopes that he would be our corey enright...more like corey feldman

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Becoming a massive liability down back.

Astbury in for him this week.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I though Jake was in our best 5 last night. We cant get too carried away or the plane to Perth will be empty. nahas, mcguane, lonergan cant be on it. Ivan shouldnt be. Relatively speaking Jake deserves to go first class compared to some of these blokes.

Agree. He's first half was very good. Spoiled and ran the ball out.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Thought he was good defensively first half. Went walkabout a bit in the second half, especially the Crameri mark 15 metres out - was trailing him back and then just let him go. Serious concern about his switched - on -edness at times.

But here's the thing with Jake. He was often the release man in the first half especially the first quarter and he was the one that kept stalling and missing viable options.

One of our strengths especially with Ellis has been hitting the short inside the square or the long loose down the line. On top of Conca and Knights missing we missed Ellis big time last night.

Was doing well on Hurley, as he did last time. Got a bit lost after Hurley went off.
Hurley match-up suits Batch. He's strong, good overhead and plays taller than he is. Can get away with it on Hurley who doesn't monster him as he probably should. Problem is his lack of mobility/speed to play on mediums with geniune AFL pace and overhead strength. Can match them in the air but is exposed on the deck often rushing his disposal due to genuine physical pressure.

If he is too immobile to play on the mediums he won't make it. However think the in-and-out selection this season (playing Pettard in his place - good grief!) hurt. Bad coaching that has wasted a third of his season. At least after 9 games straight we'd have a better idea. Not sure we know anymore than at start of season.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

What did everyone think of his game last night?

Personally I think he was pretty good. What he did wasn't really that noticeable but when I thought about the game I realised Darling was hardly sighted so that's a big tick for Batch. There was also a couple of plays very late in the game (when it was all over) where he was very energetic on the mark, applying pressure on the kicker. Which was great because at that stage we'd clearly won and it wouldn't have made a big difference. So for me that was a mindset and I was really happy he was showing those signs.

I think he's a player that needs a clearly defined role to play down back. When he has responsibility he can be really good.
