Very patchy player. Still not in my best 22.

What did he do that was so bad today? I reckon he is a good player.
Intercepts marks, kicks well.
Maybe try him on the wing

I think he's prone to concentration lapses. Does one thing well and then follows it up with a couple of errors. Not great on Dawes.
I prefer Grimes in his role.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

As a Blackman his first priority is to stop his oppo fwd. very unaccountable player. If ur gonna be this u need to really hurt oppo goin fwd which he doesn't. So wat is he? Not a proper def, not a damaging rebound def, hmmm. Not in best 22 ATM at all.

I know Dawes is a spud, but its a tough gig giving away 5 cm and 18kgs.

we really are trying to turn him in to Joel Bowden playing him on guys outside his height and weight league.

I don't understand why he was on Dawes in the first place.

He was never on Dawes, maybe manning up while Rance was picking himself off the turf, but never went to him at stop play. I thought he played on Evans & the birdman

Are we watching the same Batch? Looks pasty white to me. ;D

Think he is a Grimes back up currently. Needs to improve his consistency both in the one game firstly and then from game to game. Did a good job on Hurley and I'd be challenging him to better that performance this week.

Perhaps Hardwick simply underrated Dawes (plenty here do) and thought Batch could do the job sufficiently.
Hardwick occasionally does play Batch on the opposition KPF's. I'm not sure why, because he's always going to be giving away size to them. We have 2 big guys in the backline in Rance and Chaplin. Let them do their job and use Batch as the 3rd defensive option. That said, and I do like Batch, I'm always going to go for Grimes ahead of him, just has more composure.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I don't understand why either Batch or Rance played on Dawes.
Isn't this the reason we got Chaplin - to play on the gorillas? And free up Rance?
I'm just missing what Chaplin's role is.

Chaplin played on Gawn who at 208cm was by far the biggest gorilla out there.

Chaplin on the 206cm forward- Gawn
Rance on the best marking forward- Howe
Batch on the other tall- Dawes.

Exactly as I saw it Brodders. No doubt Batchelor started on Dawes but struggled to contain him.

Batchelor as a classic inbetweener. His intercept mark is a strength but he's not really strong enough or quick enough. Also a bit sloppy by foot.
Needs the perfect matchup to be effective but it's not always available which limits him. The third tall defender needs flexibility and elite disposal.
He's ok, just not Grimes.
