You cant be serious Griffiths on Reiwoldt, maybe in the goal square Griffiths may have been able to do OK but up the ground would have been slaughtered, I think some forget how bloody good an how hard Nick runs

As we discussed earlier in the week on the other thread no one was going to stop Riewoldt on the lead so why waste a winning matchup (Rance on Wilkes) by playing Rance on Riewoldt who also had an advantage close to goal (which he showed) when you could have played Griff (lost on lead but did better close to goal) and then all other matchups would have been winners. Ever wondered why Matty Scarlett and Dustin Flecther rarely took the best forwards? Sometimes it is best to concede possessions in certain areas of the field but dominate the inside 40m zone - Geelong's defence has been masters at it for years.

Probably would've got embarrassed like Griffiths.

Griff wasn't embarrassed, beaten, but not embarrassed. Exposing your bias.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Should be dropped very lazy last night played 10 mtrs away from he's man and gave em 4 goals last night

Got absolutely flogged in one on one contests....bad match up.

Spot on, good interceptor, nice delivery, but it was a bad match up and was killed 1 on1 in the air.. A little surprised because I actually think he had a decent defensive fist... was just on a better player. Does he get dropped, all depends how the Dogs play and what tall timber we need to cover.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

batch had a poor game. he struggles when he has to mind a key forward. if he's not taking intercept marks he usually struggles. lacks pace, average kick. with grimes as the third tall, backline general think batch will struggle.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Didn't think Beau whatever his name is now was that great personally. 11 possessions, a couple of goals, yeah he beat Batch on the night but he is 27yo, Batch only 21. Yes I did notice a lot of slipping over last night, not just by Batch but by quite a few players at critical times. They need to get suitable boots.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Didn't have a great game but he's a HBF/BP imo. Should not have played on Maister.

Article on the AFL site suggests Chocco has been working hard on Batch's ball drop re kicking. Good to hear.
Hopefully they'll both keep the lessons coming this week - particularly when the first example of a poorly dropped and misplaced kick came in the first quarter last night against St K
I know everyone can miscue a pass but when that ball drop and kicking action is so awkward - its a sign that Choco is on the money in wanting to fix it.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Notice Batch has been named on the HFF for Coburg.

Might he be groomed for this possy is the seniors.......I'm thinking he'd play that roll quite well.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Competes with Grimes and Pettard for a spot in the side but at this stage both have him covered.

Batch has his limitations with pace and ground ball work but he's a natural defender and is exceptional at ready the flight of the ball. He'll be called upon soon when/if injuries hit and will be someone who can slot straight into the backline and help maintain our structure.

Well if they're going to experiment with him, Coburgs the place to do it.

I wouldn't pay much attention to where players are named for coburg.

Foley is named at CHF.

Diddley?
Dowler?
Regard?
Gunn?

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Loving this kids games, reads it so well and did some great defensive things late in the game....it's like we've pinched him from Geelong's/Collingwood's backline

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Good to see Jake back. Shouldn't have been dropped in the first place. Give him to have run at it and don't waste another quarter of a season. Some continuity to prove if he's good enough.
