Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Batchelor in form is definately in our best 22. You can easily win a flag with a player like him in your side.

Plays tall and small. Seems down on confidence at the moment, and has a touch of 2nd year Blues about him last year.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I like Batch. He's smart, he's the right kinda *smile* and I can see him being a backline general for years to come.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Like Batchelor also. However I have no problem with him or other juniors earning the spot from the Burgers (although Richmond's VFL side can't come quick enough). Nothing wrong with making kids hungry and determined to work on their weaknesses.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I thought he was ok, that goal Hurley kicked on him was lucky because it bounced into his hands after Batch worried him out of marking. Batch also spoiled Hille in a marking contest that Hille should have won.

I’m buying his stock, he’s getting a big boy and he is a clever user.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Me too. Showing very good signs. Reads the play very well, has strong hands and delivers it intelligently and accurately.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Autum Leaves, very slow to react in contests and dosent stick tackles. Not in our best 25

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Jake's kicking, which is supposedly one of his key strength's, can at times be ordinary.
Which kind of sums him up - looks the part but doesn't quite live up to it.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

If everyone's fit,Jake's not in the starting 22 imo.Doesn't work hard enough.

I love these throwaway lines people regurgitate every now and then. It's a fair whack to a players character to say they don't work hard enough. Especially when it has no substance. He seemed to be working pretty hard to me, especially playing in an undermanned defence in 30 degree heat. It was him, and rance and a flailing griffiths for our backline on the weekend. Rance was playing up the ground, and Griffiths sometimes forgets how to defend. Batch worked hard enough.

They tried to move him up the park a bit last year in the NAB cup and he got a bit lost. Not his fault really but he knows where he belongs, took him awhile to get his confidence back after that when he went back to his position.

I reckon they really rate his boot though, he was used a couple of times as the designated 9 point goal kicker from the quick handball from a free kick. It was a set play so clearly the coaches know he can kick it long and accurately.

A Joel Bowden type for mine and a keeper, I've seen him do a few things mere mortals cannot do, he has tricks guys like White, Jacko, or Arnott can only dream about. You don't discard players like that easily.

Yeh, reckon they stalled his develoment a bit with that decision to try and turn him into another midfielder. Is the ideal HBF, hopefully ends up a Milburn type.

Good to have real competition for the best 22.

There's 36 blokes playing at the same time in the same 30 degree heat so don't use that lame excuse. He and Griffiths will struggle for a round 1 berth.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Batch would want to become a gun intercept mark and kicker of the ball because we just drafted a taller more athletic half bank flanker with our 2nd round pick who will be looking for game time in the next year or so. One has to wonder just how confident the selection committee are with Jake because we had more pressing needs in my opinion than another tall athletic HBF/wing but they went in that direction. Was McIntosh really that good of a prospect that we had to take him over more pressing needs or was he drafted because in Grimes (injury) and Batchelor we have doubts over that 3rd/4th defender spot.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

From memory they had about 20 players shortlisted because they all had the attributes most valued by us and McIntosh was the only one left at 31. Could be wrong though.

The excuse may be lame but it's the best I could come up with for why you thought he didn't work hard enough. I thought he did. I have no idea why anyone would say he didn't other than for some needless and insubstantial bagging. SO i guessed maybe you were confusing overall team lethargy due to the heat with a lack of effort from Batch.

Indeed it is. I don't mind Jake at all, I just see him as still a fringe player yet to really establish his spot in our best side.
Evidently this is where the club sees him too but he's very handy for depth. Will get plenty of game time this year.

Jake need's to stop the laconic efforts that happen from time to time and have a little more intesity at the ball.

He's better than that and he'd know it.

Look, his first season was really impressive,i just think he's tapered off since.Hope i'm wrong as i love the taste of humble pie. ;D

Well put Dave. Laconic is right. This happens when players know they have the tools.

He needs to live in the real world a while. Get a heamorrhoid. Break up with a girl. Find a good local Thai restaurant.

Learn that time passes and he needs to make every post a winner. Unless his name is jayden.

You'd like to think Justin Leppitsch is helping him.

A BAD Thai restaurant will help his Heamorrhoid though! ;D
