Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

was good last night.
Got caught out a couple of times when 1 on 1, but played a good game.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Great to seem him return to form. With him and Grimes we have two very good defenders.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I like the fact he can play on talls and mid sized forwards. He played well on Hurley last night.

Yeah he played okay, but who has his opponent? Whoever that no noname Essendon player wearing no.18 was he wasn't much chop. I'll wait to see how he does against some of quality forwards Port have.

:hihi Was close to our best in the 1st when, theoretically at least, the game was in the balance.

Yeah he carved Hurley. That's a big scalp for Batch. Overall, a so so year that has been a touch disappointing. But still a big future.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I thought Batchelor was good but still a tad rusty last night.

Fair enough though as he has missed a bit of footy.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His closing speed was good, I though he played well, he makes a difference when he is down back. Is a likely type to go on with it I hope.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Quite impressed with Batch's game last night, 18 possies, 6 marks and some very good spoils....he looked strong and beat Hurley hands down before he got moved...

His closing speed was the highlight for mine, he made Hurley look like a draught horse.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

As a second year player he has a lot of up side , he has a real feel for the game knows where to run to and can use it well ,keep improving and will be a 200 gamer ,

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His closing speed was a real feature last night, it really threw his Essendon opponents who simply weren't expecting it.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

did very well considering he went off injured in the previous week for Coburg. definitely strong as an ox, and outpointed hurley

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Batch was good but he is a funny one in that he does the hard things well, like some of hs closing speed spoils without infringing and intercept marks and then some of he easy things poorly like collecting a handball receive on the run or hitting a handball target.

His future is in playing third tall because his rebound game is good for a third tall but probably not up to scratch for a rebounding H/B.

The real interesting point for me out of the Bombers game was Newman pushing forward a lot more. He gets a rough treatment here sometimes and his year hasn't been stellar by any means but he showed on Friday that he is a very effective player in loose ball situations and in fining time and space and delivering.

I think Hardwick showed his hand on Friday with Dea and Batchelor back. With Grimes, Griffiths and possibly Chaplin to bolster the back 6 I think we will see Newman playing through wing and half forward more next year.
