Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

We have drafted a bunch of fumbling dumb footballers and stuck them all at once in our backline.

You usually want your smartest players working in the backline so they can create and minimise turnovers in that area. We go and put Rance, Dea, Batchelor and Houli all together.

Our so called great recent recruiting is not looking that great at all actually. Even Ellis has been a dissapoinment.

Spot on - and the result is that there is no consistency with his kicking.
One minute he's capable of a driving a long 55m kick to position. But within a minute or so there last night he missed with a couple of 35m passes that caused turnovers.
It's frustrating.

There have been bright patches but all too few. He seems to be a shadow of the player last season.
Lack of confidence? Lack of fitness? The sum of all parts?
Last year he looked like he might be a Joel Bowden clone. Sure by hand and foot and tough as teak.
This year he looks nothing of the sort. Concerning.

Joel certainly had his ups and downs though. Next season will probably be the defining one.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Second year blues for Batch IMO.

Has all the tools to be a serious player for a long time.

Reckon he has just got ahead of himself a touch, and thinks things are going to come easy for him. If he works through that, and keeps working hard, he'll be fine.

Hopefully he doesn't have a serious injury.

His ball drop is becoming an issue for mine. He's always dropped the ball oddly onto the foot but he's normally hit it nicely. Lately it's going anywhere and everywhere.

We have had a lot more wet games this year Barnzy, I wonder if the high ball drop becomes more of an issue on wet days. Certainly the wet GWS game was his worst for the year.

Agree with all of that.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

article on RFC.com suggest Batchelor will probably miss a couple of weeks.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

JON, Edwards/Connors, Vickery/Post, Putt, Taylor, Batchelor/McDonald...............its a disappointing read. Time to go headhunting I'd suggest. I left out Conca over Caddy also.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Was somewhat confident when he had or was near the ball last year, now I cringe.

Might have to watch a couple of his games last year but I swear he had better hands, seems to fumble everything.

Agree, not playing with the same confidence. Something has affected him, not sure what, whereas once he give and got in great spot, now seems to be in trouble more often than not. Seems restricted somehow.

The clean hands have definitely gone. Thought he had a spot stitched up for years but hasn't gone on with it this season.
One hopes it's just as simple as 2nd year blues.

Has been playing sore IMO. It has certainly affected his form and confidence.
I reckon at this stage of his development he is struggling to play with whatever is affecting him.

Last year he had clean hands and read the play very well. He worked the angles like a veteran. You don't lose things like this in 6 months.

Once his health improves so will his form. I'm tipping next year he will show the form a lot of us expect.

Out for a couple of weeks with a knee injury apparently.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Back to his best form from last year tonight. Where has he been the last few months?

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Best game since early in the year.

Looking forward to him getting back to something like his 2011 form next year
