Thought he was solid today.
Love his intercept marking - but I do worry at times with his skills at ground level (e.g. when he lost control when taking a bounce) - and also his kicking. He seems to have a very high ball drop which means there is more time for something to go astray.

But here's soemthing really petty - the two ones on his jumper are too close together in making his number eleven!

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Massive fan of Jake.

Not sure why his skills have gone backwards this year. Has always had the big ball drop, but it wasn't really a concern last year like it is now. Also no where near as clean with the hands as he was last year.

Only a second year player so has plenty of time to get it back on track.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Tavelling just OK for a second year player. I woud love to see him take the game on. Creating the play and breaking the lines would see him improve his game and take it to the next level.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His work below his knees is the biggest concern for leysy.

Yes. Gets the fumbles on some occasions when the ball hits the ground. Also seems to lack desperation, which can't be said about Morris.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Any news, didn't look good.

Unfortunately hasn't been the same player since returning from his ankle injury. Hopefully the injury is minor, but I wouldn't mind if they put him on ice for the rest of the year. Important player for the future.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Hasn't improved this year and gone backwards if anything. May be injury related but regardless needs to develop to maintain his place in the team.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

On a par with Vickery as the biggest disappointment of 2012.

The alarm bells began ringing when he went back on with a bad knee.
Grimey, Dusty, Jacko, Jakey all on holidays followed by EeVan outed. Griff outed. BbQ subbed. Rance one one peg. Batch on one peg. Newy kneed in the head n knocked out. Surprised there was anyone left to ring the alarm bell.
List is nowhere near good enough to plug this big a hole before sinking just yet.

Double hip operations (like others) over the pre-season limited his preparation.

Agree. Not the same player as his debut season.
What did Dimma say about when players start going backwards?
Here's hoping it's been largely injury related and he comes back stronger next season..

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Get fit in the pre-season and we'll see in 2013 if he's truly up to it. Needs to find a yard in pace; a better tank and be cleaner with ground balls. The mark and kick half back is a thing of he past.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Has definitely gone backwards this year (like Vickery I hope he's injured cause at least that would be an excuse for his poor form). If we weren't so short on fit players I'm sure he would have remained at Coburg after getting dropped from GWS game. He's very lucky to be getting a game IMO.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Hopefully he doesn't have a serious injury.

His ball drop is becoming an issue for mine. He's always dropped the ball oddly onto the foot but he's normally hit it nicely. Lately it's going anywhere and everywhere.

Spot on - and the result is that there is no consistency with his kicking.
One minute he's capable of a driving a long 55m kick to position. But within a minute or so there last night he missed with a couple of 35m passes that caused turnovers.
It's frustrating.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Jake had another horrible game. At one point in the second quarter he turned it over three times in a row. Painful to watch.
As a defender, who does he play on? He is too slow to keep up with an opponent on a lead, he is too slow to
Play on small forwards, he can't leap at all and is too short for aerial situations. He needs a lot of time at coburg and a new role.

I know we have few alternatives to him at the moment, but he has cost us a lot recently.

Ellis was a bit similar recently, but does seem to offer more and be improving, but under pressure in the backline, I don't want to see
Either holding the ball.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

We need people who can use the ball coming out of the back line. With Jacko and Martin coming back into our midfield this week I'd even consider dropping Lids back there (we know he can dominate a game from half back). I just don't want to see bachelor in the team again until he's right. Of our other running backmen Dea's another one who is really lucky to be holding his place but at least he's been doing more than Bachelor. Newman did his job as usual but getting injured at the end meant us losing as he wasn't on the ground to direct players in last 5 mins. Houli just had an off night but has some credit in the bank...
