Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Has lost the plot a bit Jake. His biggest issue for me is he is fumbling so badly that between him and Dea we have no confidence we will win one in ones. Besides that his kicking, marking, decision making and defensive intensity seems to have fallen away. Major concern for me.

Agree with all this.
But he's shown a lot in a short time and as they say - form is temporary. He's not in form now - but has enough class to be able to get back to his best form. And to keep improving.
If he needs a spell for a while now - so be it.

But he was good until a few weeks back. Just way off the boil at the moment.

He was bad during pre season. Then came good for a spell now drifted off again.

If I didn't know any better I'd assume he was a young player with the typical consistency issues young players have.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His confidence is shot. He does recover after a blue but doesn't seem to be going full bore at crucial times. Often over matched and possibly sore.

Agree. Our set up in the back half isn't helping him at the moment either I don't think. Put grimes and Morris back in and the tight defensive unit of a month ago will be back. Don't underestimate the loss of grimes has had not only on the team but individuals in the back line. Grimes works hard for his teammates and boosts the overall confidence of those around him. Without grimes there is a little more pressure on the others to lift that little bit.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

The umpires didnt help his confidence. In fact they crucified him.

How he was pinned for deliberate out of bounds was beyond belief.

Yes, good point.

Without Grimes Batchelor has been forced to fight above his weight division against KPP's a lot of the time. He hasn't been allowed to play his natural game which is floating in front of the contest and picking off intercept marks. That's very important to our backline structure. That doesn't mean it excuses his errors with ball in hand though.

+ the free for pushing Cameron in the side before the bounce, + the 50m penalty which was inconsistent with what I have seen happen in recent years. He was treated like Jake King yesterday :p

That was robbery. Close to the worst decision of the year. Even King would have felt hard done by.

You could tell by the look on Batch's face that he simply didn't believe it. Even the commentators, who were normally firmly on the the umpire's side, were more than a bit surprised at that one. When those blokes jump off you, you know you've made a blue.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I dunno which ump it was, Carn, but I reckon he'll get a slap during the week. ;D

I agree he will be walking funny after today, but he is still playing some poor footy. Has just fallen away from all the good things he was doing last year. needs a spell in the 2's IMO.

still a big fan, but i agree its time for a rest

Must be that Joeline Bowden guernsey. As long as he doesn't become a Jackie Batchelor, I'll be happy.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

The free kick before the bounce WAS a free kick, elbowing a guy in the back repeatedly before the ball is in play isn't tough, it's just cheap.

And then when they pay the other 500 times it happens a weekend I will stop going.
