Stand by for Second Year Blues!

Even so, most good supporters will cut him that slack - think his worst will still be Ok though.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Very impressed with not only the output our draftees put on the field this year but also their attitude and the way they carry themselves off the field is fantastic.

Yes its been only a year but looks like the club really did its homework on these boys.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Watched the Dreamtime game again last night and was super impressed by both Batchelor and Conca in that game.
They work hard to present for their team mates and disposal & decision making are generally very solid.
We can only hope our first two picks this season will make a similar impact as last year's selections.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Sounds pretty level headed young Batch. The bit that impresses me was tucked away in the match footage when he laid the tackle on the Freo player. commentators sounded like Piggy and Roo. Simple comment from Roo, Goes alright that batchelor kid.
Always enjoyed the Roo Shooter as a player, if he's liking what he sees, then it's all good.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Also played in a way that showed he has a football brain AND is a player that doesn't panic under pressure.

I'm a fan!

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Solid bloke. Solid player. I reckon Jake will work really hard to make the most of his opportunity. Love the bit about his dad getting foxtel on especially for the draft. I'm sure it was worth every cent to hear his name called out @30, and I'm sure he'll go on to make his family prouder than they already are.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

From today's The Hard Yards' article.

Dimma's Bright Lights

Jake Batchelor
He's a 19 year old with the maturity of a 35 year old. He just plays the game and is really, really smart. A lot of people were shocked that we took him where we did (pick 30 last year) but we were very happy.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Has a bit of commanding presence Jake does and I agree that's a good description I can see him becoming one of the generals down back pending injury because I think that's the only thing that's going to stop him from being a champion player for us. On his debut he reminded me a bit of Matty Rogers (early in his career playing HB), but a better kick, and a cross between a Merv Keane & Malthouse. This bloke knows how to play footy and understands the game something that this crop of kids coming up understand too. Exciting times.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

please don't compare him to handgrenade rogers

I don't see the resemblance to Rogers - especially if you're saying Rogers was also a Merv and Malthouse shandy. Better still just stay with the Merv comparison and I'll be more than happy. Merv was a genuine champion.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I have been somewhat bemused by the emphasis the Tigers have been placing on the interview during the drafting process. Too many idiots have made champion footballers. Jake Batchelor does indeed give me hope that this is the correct approach. We do seem to be assembling a group of very solid personalities who will be disciplined enough to leave no stone unturned in the search for success.

Probably a good thing Troy Taylor went AWOL, he wouldn't fit in any more at the Tigers. Perhaps a couple of others, both recently gone and still here but on the outer, who may find they don't fit in with the new culture at Tigerland.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Interesting to see the latest video on Roar Vision of with an interview with Batchelor.

Stated he is training with the midfield group and expects to play on the wing this season.

i still think we should leave him on the back flank.

Why? Playing him on the wing could mean we may be able to release Deledio to the backline.

With the constant pressure to perform and frantic media coverage of everything football nowadays it's near impossible to carry a talented frootloop on the list.
They cause way to much disruption, distraction and bad publicity.
The boys aren't allowed to be normal anymore, they're societies leaders and role models.
