Just on Merv Keane, he was glamour by foot. Total glamour. And could kick it a long way. Stamped a future captain from before he played a game. A football aristocrat who worked for a living.

I won't mind if Batchelor's form marries Mervyn's.

BTW wasn't it great the way our lad fought back after he got rested. A competitor.
The big thing about Merv Keane was whilst he was always a good player it was in finals that he always stepped up . Incredibly good big game player .

Merv was a sensational player and went something like a decade without polling a brownlow vote. :headscratch

If you look back at the tapes Merv is actually playing modern footy with his disposal, composure and run out of defence and most everyone else is playing kick and chase (but with lots of style, highmarking and coat hangers).

Never a hair out of place either.

Big Disco Roach and Merv Keane were my favourite Tigers by a mile growing up.

Keane was a great player.

My first Tiger had #10 for Sheeds, 2nd #8 for Disco and 3rd had #18 on it for Keane.

Jakes doing very well, just got caned by an experienced opponent who had a ball coming in at will in first half, Gilbee *smile* me.

Bathcelor is gonna be a key playmaker for the future Tiger sides outta defence.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

i thought it was a matchup that would teach more to Jake about the sort of player he will be than worrying about him getting beaten on the day. Just as Conca learnt the work ethic needed by playing on Milne so would have Jake learnt watching Gilbee. They're not to dissimilar players either.

Is the fighting tiger mag right? It has Batch as 195 cm.

188 at the start of the season apparently, same as Bowden and Lids - does seem to play a touch taller for mine, maybe he's grown a tad - we'll know next season I suppose.

Have only seen him on TV but was certainly surprised when I was reading the TFT last night. Would make him our tallest backman! Certainly didn't think he was anywhere near 195.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He is 188cm. They have copied Astbury height and weight across.

I really like the look of this kid. Could be a 200 gamer. Very composed and professional. Smart. I hope he goes on with it; the signs are very good.

And it's be real good if we could pick up another two or three like him.

We need another two or three in the back half just with his composed manner, regardless of size. Plays tall as well but is very good below his knees. Got caught out inbetween contests a couple of times yesterday but overall couldn't be happier with him. Good example of kids who don't play in the National Championship but still make it.

Was just on TAC Future Stars, very mature head on his shoulders. Handled himself with class.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

We have our selves a great medium size defender who has a BALANCE between attack and defend. He has both in his game. With more experience he will only be a more rounded player.

Very mature.  Answered questions without an um or an ah.  No feigning modesty, no coyness or cuteness.  Straight shooter in all senses.  And he plays with the poise of a veteran. Gives me a lot of confidence this kid - we need more of his kind.
