Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

im really really liking this guys game
on a positive note this year we have found 4 of our futer backmen..rance...batchelor..houli and grimes....

possibily delideo but id rather him as a midfeilder..and newman..but id like him as a midfeilder foward flanker

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I really think this kid was a steal at pick 30.

I do like his cool style, does remind me of a inform Joel Bowden (without the turn overs)

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

For those born in the 60's, reminds me a lot of Graeme Landy. For those that were'nt Landy was a gun left footed, ball using half back that was rarely if ever beaten. Was part of a back line that read

Dunne Bourke Malthouse

Landy Jess Keane

was injured otherwise would have played champs is what i read somewhere

Had been injured earlier but was not injured during the champs. They had a dig at shifter for not picking him to play in them.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Very impressed with Batch tonight, particularly with 15 possessions by half time ... looks a real find and can play on different types of players.

Yep had a couple of brain fades but overall one of our better players tonight.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Agreed, he was good again tonight. Has the most reliable handpass in the team, actually hits team mates chest over any distance, not toes or a foot above their head like most others.
He looks like he'll be around for a long time as a no nonsense defender who'll become more creative as he gains more experience & feels more comfortable.

yep but you can accept brain fades from 1st and 2nd year players.

problem is we also get brain fades from our 5th, 6th, 7th. year players :help

real happy with the way Cleo goes about it!

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He's not Heppel. Better defender but less of an accumulator. Whereas Heppel will probably move to the midfield (as will Conca) I think Batch will stay back and become a pivotal defender and distributor. I still think we got our selections right last year.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Batch has done great this year. Pretty much an automatic selection and one of the few in the backline that cause you to break out into a sweat when they get the balls. Gutsy, tough and nice disposal.

Amazing for a first year player who just doesn't seem to get any press at all.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Reasonably reliable by foot and overall disposal, however someone has to teach this kid to play with some *smile* intensity. I saw at least 2 occasions whereby an Essendon player was able to just waltz straight past him without any pressure whatsoever.

There was one instance of a really poor and disinterested effort to tackle Fletcher. Just had to single that one out, cos it was just a pathetic effort to tackle, and missed tackles just really p!ss me off the most (even more so than our clangers), as this has absolutely nothing to do with skill, but pure intensity.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He's done reasonably well in his first year and like most there a many areas for improvement. His ball drop when kicking is a bit of concern as he let's it go very high. Normally goes where it's supposed to but it does leave a greater room for error.

Understand what your saying. But he does balance himself very well when kiking & is able to naturally weight his kicks well. Both these things will hold his kicking in good steadt.

Another guys with a technically somewhat similar ball drop is Ben Johnson, who's a very good kick.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Should be in line for a rising star nomination soon, maybe this week even

Looking a very good pick ATM, reminds me a lot of Newman in his character

Incredible that he hasn't earnt a Rising Star nomination yet.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

The high balldrop had me worried at first but in fact he is very accurate. Has had a very solid first year.

i think this kid is a smokey for a brownlow one day. Oozes class and composure..

Geez, in the other thread Griffiths is the next Wayne Carey/Lance Franklin.

In this one Batchelor might win a brownlow.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

One of few who is composed with the footy and doesnt crap himself when theres pressure. Still has a few things to work on though in terms of spoiling and killing a contest. Should work with Grimesy.
