Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He has got a very good tackling technique as well - really wraps up the player and pins the arms.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He has looked like a footballer and a really good prospect since he came inot the team but he hasn't been getting much of the ball in recent weeks . I was starting to think that he needed to play some VFL.

Yesterday he seemed to be much more involved in the play . His best game by far . He didn't look like a good prospect anymore , he looked like an established AFL player . Physically very imposing for such a young player .

Can see why the Pies were interested Scooper. Right up their alley.
Glad he's ours.

The Collingwood comparison is a good one isnt it.

A typical Pie defender of the current era, can play on either talls or smalls & importantly work off his man. & even more importantly use it well with the ball in his hands.

Definate keeper & leysy loves his "one touch" hands. Something that isnt taught.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Great to see Jake get a mention in The Tackle today, well done

Maybe FJ occasionally asks himself "who would Collingwood draft" as a way of monitoring his selection processes

Let's hope Collingwood start asking "who would Richmond draft" in the future :)

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Love to see Jake and Conca get a rising star nomination this year. Any chance of Jake getting one this week? I didn't follow the other games, so don't know whether there were any outstanding youngsters.

Got to admit whenever FJ makes a pick and it comes out Collingwood was interested - I'm stoked. Fortunately its happening with more regularity with FJ aboard.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Jake Batchelor reminds me of a young Merv Keane.

He has slotted straight onto a half back flank where he can be assigned to pretty much any forward and be relied upon to make a reasonable fist of the task on curtailing his man’s influence on the game.

Every time he gets the ball in his hands, he looks calm and assured, making and executing simple, good decisions as to what he will do with it.

In time, he may well end up a creative running player like Merv did, but for the next three seasons he will continue to be a solid citizen in defence and will soon become one of the first picked every week.

It is his reliability which is encouraging Hardwick to release Deledio into the midfield and that can only be a good thing.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His tackle on Swan has been the highlight for me. Hit him hard and rode him into the ground. Totally legal. But Swan got up a little worse for wear.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Reminds me of James Clement. Similar build, height, composure & disposer of the football.

Jake deserves it, but i'll bet my left one that a Gold Coast kid will get it this week.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Reckon Conca might get it. He's averaged 23 possessions per game in his last 4 games. Wouldn't be too many from last year's draft more consistent than Conca right now. Maybe Heppell but he's already received a nomination hasn't he?

Yep, Heppell has already got the nod.

The biggest thing about Batchelor is how clean he is. Even his spoils are fluid and done in one motion.

Also, is pretty good at picking the right time to spread and take off. From the back half that is so important.

I cannot see a major flaw in him as a footballer thus far, just looks so natural so composed. Like I have said on other threads, I wanted Luke Parker at 30 but couldn't have been more wrong.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

he was injured during the u18 champs, so didn't have the exposure. would have definitely played. lucky for us he was injured otherwise would have gone much higher.

Yes. Good observation.

Certainly good skills and decision-making.

Agree.
The thing that strikes me about Bachelor is his intent. Skills are there but he's so driven.
Jake is hungry for success my gut tells me he'll end up an exceptional player. Perhaps a lot more than a back flanker.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Just on Merv Keane, he was glamour by foot. Total glamour. And could kick it a long way. Stamped a future captain from before he played a game. A football aristocrat who worked for a living.

I won't mind if Batchelor's form marries Mervyn's.

BTW wasn't it great the way our lad fought back after he got rested. A competitor.

I've had JB in my Dream Team 4(he was cheap) a while now & he scored 83 points against Freo. Not bad IMO. Rising star nomination may be just round the corner, as it must be for Conca.
