Jake Batchelor

Said it before but if he's going to reinvent himself I reckon it's as a defensive big bodied mid.

Imagine A very, very poor mans Ling....sort of....

Doesn't matter what happens with him, he will never find room in our 22 and wont be at the club in 2018

Agreed

I'm not thrilled he in still on the list but I am worried about our backline next year. If he is just there as depth, I'm all for keeping him in the 2s incase one of rance, astbury, or grimes cop an injury.

Just don't want to see him lining up in round 1. There at better options on the list

Exactly.
Don't think Batch is good enough but can understand the one year extension in this case. Aside from Rance, our taller defensive stocks are injury prone Astbury and Grimes and unproven longshots Moore, Chol and Elton perhaps.
That is absolutely playing with fire to get thru a season and our haphazard list management dictates we keep a player based on massive gaps in our list rather than the player's ability.

Only reason we are keeping him that makes sense is if we are tanking next year already

That's why we should delist and pick up Richards. Richards is taller, faster can play either end and just might have a future in the AFL.

I'm expecting we will be looking at a newer half back this year in the draft which should mean Batchelor doesn't play much for us. No-one can fault his desire to try and compete but the problem with him is he has no characteristic that sticks out. He's slow, not that tall and isn't a great kick. Just an average footballer that should have never been picked in the 30's. If he was a pick in the 60's then he would have been an ok pick.

Has anyone who has watched Jake this year at training noticed any difference in size or fitness, or a change in role?

Still frustrated that we didn't move him on. As I don't know what value he adds to the team.

Jake has not been competing any many of the pre-season training drills with the group but has been doing a lot of running. Whether that is all re-hab or conditioning for a different role note sure. But he is barely a fringe player so not sure we should be looking in his direction for an improved Richmond in 2017

Look without Vlaustin who is our next defender to get into the side? I don't think he adds hugely but I'd rather him than Morris. Depth player.

Talk of delisting is very premature. There is a line and he is not at the head of it. Griffiths (ret.) Morris, Lennon, Elton lead the way for mine.

Wasn't the worst today, ans should have had a free in the last quarter for the rundown tackle.

Struggled to walk at the end of the game.

Just no good, laid a couple of good tackles, but was poor in defense and was moved forward in the last because of that, his kick when we were out that floated about 15m (when we had 2 players out) was purely VFL stuff.

VFL defender and a less than VFL forward.

We are going nowhere trying to play him in the team. As far as I'm concerned, he and Elton stamped their papers today and should never play for the tigers again. Neither will take us anywhere.

Almost invariably when a Docker's player marked on the lead inside 50 in the first three quarters Batch was trailing him by a few metres.

Every forward he was rotated on became the go to target.

Made two good tackles. Give him an extension.

Funny, i thought Batch did his job. If the siren went 20 seconds earlier, he was the hero for THAT match saving tackle.

Thats the second most painful loss ive endured in my memory I reckon (after the 2015 loss to north).

I watched it in a strange pub, full of strangers, all on my own.

when Bellis kicked that goal, I grabbed 5 strangers, 3 of whom where women in their late 60's enjoying mothers day sherries, and did a ring a rosy, upending chairs and tables.

As i was explaining to the jubilant strangers, who had zero context or understanding of AFL, that fairy tales dont happen to Richmond; we were still embracing and circling manically; Mundy took the mark and beat us.

anyway, Ive had a couple of rum and partially recovered.

ive read the unsophisticated post mortems, and I get it.

But Batch did the job he was called on for. Caddy played his best game. Edwards was enormous, and Cellis stood up in a stage when almost noone was.

As a rule I dont single blokes who should bare the blame out. Im gonna stick to that rule.
