Jake Batchelor

Yeah Batch gets a shout out from me he's a good character and an ok footballer. good luck to him hope he gets a gig somewhere

My feeling about Jake was the he was a better player when he was a lightly framed 19 year old. As he acquired an AFL body he lost his agility and a bit of leg speed which made him a kpp without the height.

In the end he was in between, not a flanker and not a kpp

If he was 193-194 cm he would have made a good key defender imo

x 2.

Often he would be up against players who were taller than him. We didn't have anyone else at the time.

Yes agree with this. When we are considering players unlucky to be delisted, you know we have depth.

The year he had the top knot he looked like body didn't suit him (let alone the hairstyle). Revived somewhat when he went short hair but was being left behind by the game by then. In the Port final he looked cooked in the first 5 minutes. Shame thought / hoped he could get back in to the back 6 but not to be.

I seem to remember he had hip problems too at the end of that first season & that also appeared to curb his pace.

Well done Batch, gave it his best to the club. I probably would have kept him for depth best so be it.

I agree. Really brave and honest stalwart of the club. Just great at VFL level this year and still a handy back-up defender but the game moves on. If only he was never given such a mis-match as being sent to play on Waite in the Norf final disaster? Would it have prevented this? Maybe not.

Best of luck and thanks, Batch. May your footy career continue successfully elsewhere. Would be great to keep playing for VFL like Moro.

I really had a soft spot for Batch, and thought he was hard done by in his early days. I wonder if we'd recruited him today, whether we'd have gotten a better player at the end of the experience.

I feel he really gave everything he had to the club and for the club. As per the comment above, the Waite match-up was a terrible idea. Batch had some great negating games down back, and in particular his game where he spooked the young fella from GWS and put a stop to him sticks out clearly in my mind.

I hope you have a great post-RFC career Batch. Thanks for everything.

Jake has written a really good article about his career and future. I always liked Jake because of the team first way that he played, and this comes across with the joy he felt when we won the premiership. Jake, his family and the RFC can be very proud of the of the fine young man that he has turned into. I wish him well for his future endeavours.

Is an outstanding club man, Neil Balme singled Jake out at the AGM when summarizing that it was a club premiership with all listed players playing their part not just those that took the field. Marvelled at Jake's never give up attitude even though he couldn't crack into the one's despite showing great form in the VFL. No sulking from Batch, gave his all for the club which is all you can ask. Ditto Morris

Jake had to play as a tall defender but was undersized, i thought he did quite well in 2015 in that role, apart from the elimination final against the Roos when he was poorly matched up against Waite.
Broad's development and extra height is probably what cost him another contract, as he would've been a handy back up.
