Jake Batchelor

He's out ATM. Not sure the injury.

Batchelor is not an AFL player. We're all good with that.

But having seen a bit of him at reserves level lately I've refreshed my view of the player. With the drop in class a player's strengths become pronounced. And it reminds me of what's good about any player.

At VFL level Batchelor is everywhere. Ball comes into D50 - there's Batchelor. First week I was *Batchelor has anticipation.* He is classes above others on the ground in this respect. Then he'd get the ball and slam it on his boot or coolly kick it to them.

You begin to notice his straight line speed. He can close on anybody. At VFL level he can give away huge starts over 35m and shut blokes down. VFL players have no chance of ducking Jake Batchelor. His tackles stick and are harsh.

In the air he jumps with the big blokes. Fearless and competitive. (He does that at AFL level too.)

He's macho, as young spooker always says. And he's brisk.

But he can't kick. His kicking is so bad it sometimes looks like self-sabotage.

He's not the way forward but he stops and he has very good values, athleticism and work rate. If another club wants to offer him a senior berth fine. If not we should keep him on the under list.

We have young players who simply cannot comprehend Jake's values. They need him around.

2010 draft. 1st and 2nd picks on players who can't kick for *smile*.

Thanks Jackson. Now just *smile* off with Dimma would ya!

Still think batch is underrated as his value to the backline. He is the backman who plays defensively but also pushes forwards. Might not have the skills needed to carry it off everytime but i dont see to many others in our colors doing it either. Played to often against unlike opposition and limited in areas but work rate and support for team mates cannot be questioned.

One of his last games in the seniors was terrible since then he has disappeared
I don't dislike him like others do. He was part a back 6 that was the 3rd best defence in the league 3 years ago.
Couldn't he be tried forward.
I just can't understand Hardwick. The seasons over try something different.

I'm not sure he's even that !

he's first or second year wasn't too bad down back
Then Dimmer wanted him to play midfield, which surprise, failed.
Been taking backwards steps ever since.

defensively I thought he was a pretty decent player. Just turned it over too much.

Can't get away with being bad by foot these days if you play in the back line. Too much pressure.

Out for the season with a shoulder reco, wish him the best , however going by the article he may still be at Punt Rd next year, dissapointing to give a 24 year old of his limitations another year , especially with where we are at.

Time to delist and start the cull of the list cloggers......

So I expect to read he's re-signed any time soon.....

Very good reader of the ball but hasn't progressed much from when we recruited him. He does have a mean streak which I like in a defender. Not the worst depth player around.
