Bellis can kick on his left...just not very well.

Theres others who don't have an opposite foot: Cellis, Vickery, Astbury, Grimes, Hampson ( he's so special he cant kick on either foot...)
He's not as bad as made out. I reckon he kicked more on his left than his right on Saturday night. He is averaging 75% DE.

Glad im not the only one on team batch. He can kick well turns it over occasionally but no where near as much as others do regularly rarely gets beaten in a one on one and is pretty good with intercept marks as well. He is not the crab others suggest he is here. Is it merely a coincidence that he is in our backline when we start to play better footy. If three years in a row isnt proof enough then some supporters cannot be told. He is a defender first which is what Hardwick realises he needs about 5 weeks into a season.

Last year our backline was rated fourth or so in the league. Fair enough. But we do have the best backman in the league. So maybe we should be aiming higher.

Batchelor plays #3 back for us. Chaplin/Astbury #2 back. Grimes #4 back (too fragile for a promotion). We tried to transition both Batchelor and Chaplin out at the start of the season. And rightly. But it didn't work. Assburgers was ordinary and Vlastuin got caned or moved.

Batchelor is not the answer.

We are weak in the #3 back role. Who are we training to take the role long term? Who have we recruited? C. Moore has a better athletic profile than Batchelor now and would be a better senior back within twenty games but his kicking is worse.

We have the best backman. We should be aiming for the best backline. No way Assburgers/Chaplin and Batchelor can be part of that.

This is a job we should moneyball. It's only a #3 back.

We did play Chol back in the Magoos last week, apparently. He may be a #3 back prospect as he develops. But that is not a plan.

Heard them say on Talking tigers that it was Dimmas idea to play him there, nothing wrong with a bit of backline education in the first year

I just heard it meself, brother. I roared with laughter. Bloody Handbrake again! (Old-fashioned discipline.)

Just on the topic of old-fashioned discipline I think this Batchelor could lose his French travelling barrista look. Get a man's haircut. A blond permed mullet. And some plain white boots. Beige bike shorts under high-cut running shorts. And matching striped head and wristbands. Try to at least look like a bloody footballer.

You understand more of it than I do, CC. And I've defrauded some almost average schools.

I thought his kicking skills weren't too bad on the weekend, just the one shocker where he kicked it out on the full. Looked like he was trying to play more aggressive,

Wat the? he had plenty of shockers, to many times his kicks fell short to a leading player im was literally pulling my hair out how many times this happened and those turnovers saw the ball come back the other way just as quick...
When u get 20 possies and your super coach score is 66 you've had a bad night with ball in hand...

i reckon many are selling Batch's defensive efforts short last year, probably cos of the elimination final. he played tall most of the year and was hardly beaten. but he is short to play as a tall, and getting beaten by a talented tall was always a big risk. (especially when our 2nd tall is Chaplin).
we were a bit stuck last year when Waite got on top of him. We could shift Rance onto him, but that would leave Chaplin or Batch on Petrie. Chaplin would have no chance of keeping up with Waite. We could have moved Grimes onto him, but that would expose Batchelors other weakness. he cant play as a small. He would have been chasing Nahas, Thomas, Higgnis or Harvey around.
To play as a 'slow' small, like CEllis is, you need to be able to use the ball. Batchelor is a beautiful looking kick, and he does kick it hard and low mostly, but he is an average kick and doesnt get it enough.
we can plug away with him as 3rd tall, and he will probably do the job most weeks, but there will always be a risk he will get taken apart by a good taller player.

i like Grimes as a small, but if we are playing Morris and Hunt, we dont need to play Grimes on a small forward, so he can play '3rd tall'. Grimes is as capable as Batchelor as playing on a 3rd tall forward and I would trust him more on a 200cm forward, such as Brown this week. Batchelor can control the backline in the VFL and be ready if we have injuries or form issues. If he wants a future at AFL level he needs to learn to run and run and be more consisten with his kicking so he can play as running half back.

Just awful. Slow, looks 8kgs over weight, doesn't provide anything when we have the ball.

Can't stand him. Walks around like he is a superstar.

Play Broad. Batchelor has zero improvement in him.

Thought this for a long time so totally agree with you.

I just don't get what he is.

Too small for key defender
Too slow for small defender
Too slow / doesn't get the ball to be a rebounder

So he just plods around and provides very very little.

While I don't disagree with criticisms of Jake's athleticism I thought he gave what he had on the night. Most of our players spectated or stargazed. Batchelor competed as well as he can and got inside a few packs. He's not an AFL player.

At least the locks are looking good. Plenty of conditioner, so it gives that shine when sipping the latte in designer jeans. You guys just dont get it. That is what its all about. Forget the footy.
