Jack Ross

There is a poster on this site who has been a big critic of Ross (maybe he still is) and a lot of his criticism was around his kicking.
I’m not really commenting on whether his opinion was justified or not but what is clear to me is that his disposal has improved.
He seems to have more time or take more time to dispose of the ball now and maybe that has helped his kicking.
He did a lovely little side step on Saturday as well.
These are things that we haven’t seen before from him
I love seeing guys who work hard and persist get rewards !!

He has improved Sinners, Jack has obviously worked furiously on his disposal, as evidenced by training reports also. Much respect.

In addition to his improved kicking (raised on here already), I love that he refuses to just throw the ball onto the boot; he seems to always be looking for a constructive option and is prepared to take some heat whilst doing so.

Ross is improving each week but i just can't get past the notion the poor bugger is still played out of position and if given an extended run of games in the guts he would take his game to another level. I would love to see what he could do in CB's considering that is our achilles heel.

His bump to get that ball on wing and subsequent shimmy was unreal.
Held onto the ball for an eternity even though he had outside run but used his kick to perfection.
Very impressed.

When our centre line was tiring in the last surely it would have been worth it to try Ross there? He has improved a lot and I would be trying him as a rotation into the centre.

The Hopper selection has thrown many things out over the season. Jack should be in Dennis H position

Nah.

His ball use has always been good. He had a couple of games post ankle injury which coloured some people permanently.

I'm glad he's getting the recognition now.

Yeah disagree. My position on him was from day one.

Sinners had it right - growing confidence and composure have big roles to play here.

All up, he’s putting together a pretty good season.

I’m probably on my Pat Malone in saying I still don’t think he’s the type of quality we should be aiming for, even in our bottom six.

For me, he just hasn’t mastered any AFL attribute apart from working super hard on the track, which of course is super impressive.

All good, I am probably wrong.

He has. I think also that he is more composed and that helps his disposal.
I played footy with and worked with a cousin of Jack's , so have followed closer than some others
after a brilliant start he really lost his mojo of more recent times in the VFL he looks a class above
to my eye last year against weaker sides he had composure looked good but in hottley contested games he'd panick with ball in hand
this year his evasion skills seem to have gone to the next level and thats giving him more time for decisions and execution

is it he now feels he belongs at AFL level ?

Seems obvious for Pickett to go back to a wing. Ross to take Cotchin's spot in the guts. Cumberland to take Pickett's spot in the forward line.

Inside beast Ed Langdon got 25 touches yesterday. Jack Ross is allowed to get a kick. The Melbourne game was a test of his class.

To level up Ross has to get more ball in good company. Ball use has always been his strength, ball winning his weakness.

why the *smile* aren't they doing this?! this is so obviously the right thing to do. but i guess a club champion will come before a younger players development

I don't think he's an inside bull. The same mistake was made about Graham early days. He's an outside mid. Second or third in line after the ball has already been got. He still has to be able to win it himself - but that's not his primary weapon.

Watch his head - it's stuck in vertical - hardly ever horizontal. That's why he makes good decisions - he sees the ground, the options around him. He side steps, he draws, makes space for others - puts them into better positions. He'll get more of the ball when his team mates trust him more. But he'll never be a huge owner of the footy.

Yeah, it's bizarre. Ross is playing career best football, playing a challenging role well, and our coach is getting potted for not moving him into a role he struggled in previously.

He's so clean and evasive really reliable now in that wing role and definately has a skill set thats unique for that role as he has some hardness and inside ability as well. Brilliant for him to find a role now, hes such a hardwoker he was always going to make it just needed the right role
