Jack Ross

Sounds like he has a pretty calm and mature head on his shoulders. Makes a point about not sooking it up when dropped and performing.

Very impressed.
I really felt for him in 2019 when he was slated to play in the granny only to be overlooked for Pickett. That must have been a massive blow to cop as a young man just starting out on his journey.

I think you missed the gist of my post which was to reiterate what I have been saying for years that Jack Ross is close to the hardest worker on his game in all my years' of track watching. I have wanted to tell Jack personally but never had the chance.
I am glad he has been given 12 games in a row and deserves reward for his hard work.
What's the old saying mate? The harder you work the luckier you get. If Ross makes it above others it will be a testament to his desire.

Probably deserved to play, but from memory was surplus to needs and Pickett provided a more balanced side which obviously was the right call.

There is a poster on this site who has been a big critic of Ross (maybe he still is) and a lot of his criticism was around his kicking.
I’m not really commenting on whether his opinion was justified or not but what is clear to me is that his disposal has improved.
He seems to have more time or take more time to dispose of the ball now and maybe that has helped his kicking.
He did a lovely little side step on Saturday as well.
These are things that we haven’t seen before from him
I love seeing guys who work hard and persist get rewards !!

Kicking was always a strength according to the online scoring reports.

As we've seen on other threads, some people make their mind up on someone or something and can't let go even when there's been evidence to the contrary.

I think some players get an easy pass here (the love for Sonsie vs his consistent output for example) whereas other players (see Houli) get criticised fairly harshly. When we started to win, all was forgiven.

One thing Ross has definitely fixed is that tendency for some of his cross field kicks to hang in the air a bit too long.

Working on weaknesses and incremental improvement. Both traits of very good, long term players.

I totally agree output doesn’t equal hype for the Sonz so far but there is something there which hopefully will rise to the top and that’s a shed load of talent.
I think that’s why the criticism of him is muted at the moment because we can see a very good footballer that hasn’t quite emerged yet. Maybe it never will but it’s too early to make that call.
Ross is a little different. He is not as talented as Sonsie but he is driven to succeed.

Great interview on the club website with Jack Ross.

Nice one thx! He’s again sounding like the kid that said he wanted to captain rfc. Speaks like one and acts like one. Long shot indeed but he’s one of forty three players I’d enjoy to see succeed.

Very impressed with his interview. Level headed, speaks very well and actually talked about people around the club with some insight into contributions.

He was also honest about his own evolution at the Tigers. Every club needs players like Ross who do the hard yards. Work at their craft. Take the disappointments stoically, and just get on with it.

Unlike others, and one petulant, struggler in particular.

I’ve always been a fan of Ross

It is what makes a player. My particular favourite player is Broad. He came to the club as a journeyman, got injured a couple of times and worked on his deficiencies with a couple of very good coaches and now he is a three time premiership and one of the most important cogs of our team that make it run. I have no doubt that Ross will follow the same lines as in these last few games he has improved exponentially

Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne joined SEN’s Sportsday to discuss the performances from Round 19 which may have been overlooked in the coaches’ votes.

Jack Ross (Richmond)

“We had him as the second highest rated player on the ground on the weekend against Hawthorn and didn’t get a vote from the coaches.

“Over the last couple of weeks, he’s actually been the sixth highest rated wingman in the competition.

“It was a huge substitution when he came on (against Sydney) so early in the game and have a real impact.

“He’s found his role playing that wing role alongside Kamdyn McIntosh, under Andrew McQualter.

“He’s going quite well at the moment and should be one for Richmond supporters to keep an eye on moving forward."

Jack has grown somewhat since Dimma left. Is starting to exhibit the leadership quality he has and his attitude.

Take note Sonz.

Good interview well handled.

All of a sudden, I feel safe when he has the ball.

Developing a really good step to give himself time.

Agree. Now let’s find the next diamond in the rough. We can’t continue with the old crew.
We have scored with Tylar Young this season as he is looking the part of our defence for years to come. We have Ross now looking like the winger we desperately need. Then we have Banks and Brown knocking on the door, young Coulthard, Cumberland, Bauer and Ryan so maybe things could be looking up next season
